I find shaking my head and laughing at them usually works quite well.

I give to charities of my choice and resent the tactics undertaken by some chuggers.

Whenever I visit Glasgow (I currently live abroad) to catch up with family/friends I find myself harassed by them. My easy opt out is to smile, apologise and say "I don't speak English" in either broken English or another language. Works a treat every time! They typically smile and say "enjoy your visit" LOL

Would you like to share these tatics as these people drive me to distraction as have to walk past them to work most days

I tend to know walk past them with my phone clued to my ear :D

After being harrassed by a particularly odious Help the Aged specimen (I actually complained to the charity about that one), I then had to pass another group in the great Derby chugger gauntlet (anyone who knows Derby will know where I mean). Glared at the one about to approach me, and said very tersely (for I was mildly irked at the hassle from a couple of moments previously) "I strongly suggest you do NOT bother me"... he ran away!

The door-to-door ones - I go into the porch, see they're there and just turn around and go back inside. I'm not dealing with or justifying my finances and charitable giving to some stroppy acne-ridden just out of adolescence oik. My porch my porch - how I'm going to miss you when we move - going to have to use the window instead which is nowhere near as impactful in delivering the "naff orf and quit bothering me" message.

Or you reply to their stage whispered in order to publicly shame you "Oh so you don't care about the old people/animals/children/fluffy bunny rabbit/lesser-spotted Mongolian gnat" with a simple "Nope" - that deflates them as well.

I once got followed down the street by a chugger who, once I said "I'm not interested" followed me shouting "You don't even know what I'm asking yet!" followed by various swear words and name-calling because apparently I was being "f'ing rude" in ignoring him(!). I had to go into a shop to get rid of him - could still hear him f'ing and blinding outside for a while! Wish I had got his details and reported him - I think it's dreadful that they can behave like this.
  • My husband makes me deal with the Red Cross chuggers in our high street. When they approach I put on my thickest American accent (although I have lived here for eight years) and say ''I don't live here'' and if that doesn't work I tell them I already support the American Red Cross. :D

I was in town this morning and i saw the usuall chuggers jumping out in front of people...."Excuse me sir.

Outside the Library was two women standing in front of a desk, they had there little banners up,waiting for people to approach there stand. They were bothering no one if you did not go up to them they did not approach you.I say well done to the Cats protection league.

Also i have see on numerous times representatives of Northamptonshire air ambulance, they also as far as i have seen never bothered anyone.I walk through our town centre everyday and i get sick and tired of being approached by the bloody chuggers.
