  • It is that one Big, it's like mirrored flecks. What quartz have you gone for?

If I go for the decoglaze I am going for raspberry but just wondering if other suppliers will do something similiar and cheaper!

Yes the appliances can work out very expensive!!!! Still deciding on mine!

    Its a minefield isn't it??

I am almost decided on everything, units ordered, I really want glass splashbacks and I like Decoglaze but could I get the same quality but cheaper? Is Decoglaze the best????

I am also going for Silestone stellar negro but just now worrying that it may scratch?????

Last thing to choose is appliances, going for a Range Cooker was going to go for a gas hob but now thinking induction??

    Decisions, decisions!

I've had Speedstone Onyx Black worktops in my own kitchen for two years. (same sparkly black worktop, different brand) and it is mint. Not even the tiniest scratch on it. I couldn't be happier with it. There are other worktops I like but I wouldn't change it if someone offered me a free swap for any other style worktop of my choice. I'm that fickle that there isn't much else that I woudn't swap!

I had a black quartz worktop installed a few months ago and most of it is fine, but there is quite a lot of limescale around the taps. Do you find that?

If you live in a hard water area, I'm afraid this is likely to be unavoidable, unless you get a water softener.

If you do live in a hard water area, either don't choose black worktops, get a water softener or resign yourself to endlessly cleaning the scale off them

Thanks, or I have a fourth option which I do - ignore it. :)
  • Can't remember the name of the quartz - something like star galaxy?? Or was that the granite version??

Going for undermounted sink but live in softwater area so hould be fine on the limestone front - which is lucky as I would be going down the 'ignore it' route after a few months of caring I expect!!

My question is - is it worth paying for a Franke sink or could I make do with a bog standard Magnet one?? They want about £260 for the 1.5 bowl undermounted sink and flexi-hose tap so I know a Franke one would cost more! Also if I should consider going for a Franke sink - any recommendations or recommendations for supplier??

    Thanks as ever............:j

A little more information please - stainless steel, ceramic or composite? Colour - if not stainless steel? What brand of tap?

Suggest you follow this link as a start:

  • Me again!!

Have looked at sink from Magnet and it is Astracast Echo so relatively happy with that so think I will leave it as the number of external companies involved makes me nervous and Astracast seems relatively ok!!

On that note however, Magnet have quoted me £3400 for my quartz black galaxy / star galaxy worktop which is essentially a length of 3650mm with undermounted sink cut-out and drainer grooves and an oblong for island of 1200mm by 1800mm with a hob cut-out. Seems very expensive!!?!?!?!

Interestingly, what they did do when I queried the overall price was reduce fitting to £1200 from £2000 so I now know there is some movement in that!

So I did an autoquote for Diapol for the same quartz and came in at under £2000 including upstands which the Magnet quote did not - any thoughts on Diapol? I know it might be more hassle in that I have to organise for the templating but.......£1400 cheaper!!!!

    So my questions are:

Should I go with Diapol over Magnet?

Should I push magnet on the fitting price (hate haggling) to get them to do it for £1200 without the worktop? Which means my cost would be £9100 for cabinets, integrated dishwasher, sinks and taps and fitting for kitchen and utility so if I am brave enough, I could ask them to do it for £9000. Are they likely to go with this or not??

Thanks again for this - would probably have signed up with the builder and original quote from Howdens if had not found this website and be paying £22,500 for kitchen with Lamona appliances, no sinks, taps and worktops!!!!
  • Quick update - have agreed £9200 with Magnet and now decided to take out one unit which is £215 so coming in at less than £9000!! and then I will get Diapol to fit worktops and upstands - am considering taking out wooden windowsill and putting quartz in its place - anyone does this?? Is it as simple as I imagine it is??!!

    And then onto the appliances..................:j

Where did you purchase the worktop please?
