The windows firewall works perfectly for everyone apart from niche users. The only real benefit of a third party firewall is they tend not to be as easily circumvented when the computer is infected by a virus. But then again, if you have a good spyware/malware/av setup, then the windows firewall will be perfect.

I play many games, and have configured a lot of things over many years, applications, games.. with all sorts of weird network requirements. The windows firewall has never stopped me from accomplishing something, or put my system at risk. This is from a cisco guy!
As I've said before here -- esp. so for Windows 7, the default firewall has always been adequate for me

....and welcome to the forum dez :hello:
  • Will look at Armor thanks.
Also what's the windows one called in XP? I would be worried that it will be really slow like Windows Defender and Windows Automatic Update etc.

Its just the firewall thats built into windows. Doesnt really have a name as such

And it certainly doesnt slow anything down

(And what do you mean by auto updates? Theyre needed for security, but auto updates doesnt slow the computer down 'all the time')

well considering most rats(used for hacking rather than assistance. i.e turkojan etc rather than team viewer) (Remote Administrator Tool) are built to bypass the windows firewall and cryptors can make them undetected by any av/spyware for weeks i wont be leaving my pc to chance it on the windows one..

cant say which standalone ones are any good as have been trying out secuirty suites for a while now...
