I am lucky - after 15 months on ESA - I was offered a job working at minimum wage for 16 hours per week for a fixed 6 months - I am now concerned that when the six months are up - I will be refused a return to ESA - on the grounds that I have proved that I can work - but the truth is that I was offered this job to give me some work experience - which the government wants people to do - but when I finish, my chances of finding a REAL permanent job as extremely slim - so any advice welcome ....
I am due to finish in 3 months time.
Congratulations on getting well, hope you are enjoying your job

Based on that reasoning, 99% of the unemployed should be claiming ESA!
re read the post, I said it is possible to work and claim ESA in some circumstances hense the word EMPLOYMENT in the title, ONW is telling the OP if she is working she should not be getting ESA as s/he is classed as fit for work, but this is not always the case.0 -
Oldernotwiser wrote: »The OP didn't say that s/he had been doing permitted work - in fact, as s/he has been doing 16 hours and permitted work has to be fewer than 16 hours, that couldn't be the case.
I wasnt pointing out the OP specifically though, re read the post its fairly straight forward.0 -

Sorry but i actually just don't understand what exactly you are asking for/trying to have happen??
You will have done a REAL JOB for half a year, and gained experience in doing that job role in that industry,
thus have proved that you are able to do a ''real fulltime job on a permenant basis''.
So why do you think that you wouldn't now start claiming job seekers allowance??0 -

Couldn't have put it better myself. :T0 -
If after six months you find you are not fit to work then make sure you see your GP/healthcare professional. If they feel you are unfit to work they will issue a sick note and you can resume claming ESA.
Is this a work trial? If it was you'd be able to continue claiming ESAThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I don't know if I'm being a bit thick but I don't get this thread at all!
If you've got a temporary position and held it down for 6 months, then surely that shows you are capable of work?
Why do you think you condition will prevent you doing a similar job in the future?
Am I missing something...? :cool:0 -

I think he wants to go onto ESA rather than Jobseekers' Allowance once his job finishes, but as you say he has proved he is fit for work so does not have this option.(AKA HRH_MUngo)
