yeah as others have said all the little s*** is doing to your son is classic trash talk (it is also extreamly common on xbox live more so than on psn). basically mute everyone not only will you not hear any of that crap but it will also improve your game as you will be able to hear the enemy coming to shoot you.
you cannot 'hack' into the ps3, not directly or by visiting any website.
the only possible way is if the person knows your password (and email address) and just logs in using any computer. I would just say make sure you have a secure password and don't ever tell anyone,
but also make sure you have a secure secret question (ie if the question is 'what was your mothers maiden name? dont put 'smith' cause that is really common mix it up by putting 'sm1th3426543874' or similar)
so to sum there is ZERO way of hacking the ps3 or psn unless the password is known, and this is just some trash talk by some fat american 13 year old nobody sat in his mothers basement who think that he is actually worth something as a human being. just tell your son to block him and move on.0 -
Hi all
Thanks for the comments. This wasn't supposed to end up a moral argument. Basically, I am the parent and I will decide what's right and wrong. I know kids that drink, smoke, swear and have sex at 14 - 15 etc, but I don't go banging on their door and taking this issue up with their parents.
Also, I am not worried about the bullying etc. I started the topic to see if it was actually technically possible what the kid was saying.
SO, BACK TO THE TOPIC IN QUESTION AND PLEASE NO MORE MORAL ARGUMENTS..............
Yes, my son used the word prestige. He said "The kid is able to Hack you and he has proved this because the kid has now got himself a massive prestige score which is miles higher than you are ALLOWED to get". My son went on "He has got a prestige score really high and he hardly ever plays it. It's because he can hack in and make his OWN prestige really high and build up his own score and he can also put anyones prestige down that he wants"
Again, I'm not concerned about the bullying etc (School boy stuff), I just wanted to know if what the kid was saying was technically possible.
Thanks0 -
no it's not possible to hach you unless they know your password and email address or can easily guess your security question. there are youtube vids with 'hacks' to increase prestige but it can never affect you and your sons account, even if they are actually 'real' hacks.
just tell you son to mute the team talk
and he will never hear these low lifes again. While in game, press the select button to bring up the list of players. Highlight the persons name you want to mute, and press X. Any person who is using a Mic, will have the little icon beside their name.
and block the persons username.
one thing I would say is even if the single player you deam sutible to your son (which I agree all it is, is naughts and ones you are killing NOTHING more)
but it is still an 18 game so you cannot take offence that heavy trash talk and bullying takes place in the multiplayer as most over 18s know to shake it off or just mute them.0 -
just to throw a spanner in the works but it is possible to unintentionally join a hacked lobby, and without a certain password your stats get reset, this applies to COD MW2 not sure if it possible in COD4. This has nothing to do with the PSN account though which i doubt he can hack
Think the persons PSN name is Mrcodes, and he charges £5 to get your stats back - big thread here about it

Yes, it's possible to "hack" your own account and get prestige quickly (aka boosting), you can't hack other accounts unless the password is given out or easily guessed
EDIT : This is a video of boosting

All it is, is that you rack up points quickly so you level quicker. Nothing more. Aimbots on the other hand are annoying
I also agree about muting everyone, it annoys the hell out of me hearing the immature people non stop talking rubbish, so I just mute all and play the game

I cant comment on ps3 but on the xbox you can block comms with other gamers and avoid gamers so check if this can be done
also on the xbox you can set it up so your son only plays with his friends
i suggest he only plays with his friends
maybe you could look into if any of the above is doable on the ps30 -
there are only 10 levels of Prestige , but the online thingy will show it as 1000% complete .
people can and do boost to get to to the top prestige quicker , but that more about a certain glitch that used to be in private mode where you had unlimited ammo and lives ect . the only thing you achieve with prestige is new badges and call signs , it does not gives you a unfair advantage .
Your son simply needs to block or take the person who said all this off his friends list . job done .
P.S moral argument .
the still at school crowd are the worst for swearing , and abuse on Xbox live . if they are doing there , they are doing it in the playground. pretty hard to wrap your kids up in cotton wool against that IMO .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Does he have to play online? If he likes the genre and enjoys playing games why can't he just play it on his PS3/X box, no hassle from other players just the sheer pleasure of trying to complete a great game,I am a COD fan have played the all and will be buying the Black Ops,; I don't play online- I can do without the childish swearing and backlash you can get from some idiots online! You live..You learn.:)0

Playing online is one of the best parts of the game though!
I have heard of someone that will go into your account on their ps3 and set your prestige at lavel 10 and put your score at whatever you want if you pay them a fiver and give them your password! Personally I don't see the point!
I have also heard that on Black Ops there will be a reporting system for reporting cheats etc.0
