HDMI cable - how much to pay for one?

infomonkey wrote: »This might help as it depends on what your Tele is pushing. The damn boxes talk to each other these days and negotiate "link speed" based on the cable you plug in. So with a cheaper one you might not get full 1080i
This category difference in HDMI cables surfaced with the introduction of HDMI 1.3 - which defines two cable categories:
Category 1-certified cables - tested at up to 74.5 MHz (720p60 and 1080i60), and
Category 2-certified cables - tested at 340 MHz (1080p60 and 2160p30). Later in October 2008, Category-1 HDMI cables started to be marketed as 'Standard' while Category-2 HDMI cables as 'High Speed'.
So it depends on what the TV can support really. But if she is truly unaware of the differences then any will do.
It's a guarantee issue. The CAT2 is validated at 5 meters plus the CAT1.3 is not
- covered extensively in this group over the year
- most CAT1.3 & CAT2 perform the same under 5 meters of length
- if you are only using blue ray, only deep colour, and only over 5 or more meters in length you may [ seen no proof ] benefit from Cat2
- and anyway you should pay more or less the same for a standard length CAT2 cable price as you do for a CAT1.3Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I take it you bought one? What are your views? Seem like you strongly recommend it.
No, I have Van Den Hul
Im not getting into the hdmi debate. I recommend it as its very well made for a fiver
Where digital cables differ is jitter. So although ALL HDMI certificated cables will (Should) 'work', they dont all work the same:idea:0 -

I have a load of £3 eBuyer ones as well as a couple of aliEnRIK's 'That Cable' £5 ones plugged into various things (AppleTV, Sky box, PC monitor, PC to main TV as 2nd monitor etc etc).... all seem to work fine and afraid I can't see much of a difference between any off em, Possibly just me tho.
I've also loaned one of my £3 ones to a work colleague to see how it compares with the £80 richer sounds one he has.... suspiciously he never seems to have gotten round to testing it

Don't you believe it. Snake Oil is still a very popular cable enhancement - especially so in the much less demanding audio range and even for mains cables !!!!!!.pstones578 wrote: »Gone are the days when companies should get away with charging crazy money for gold plated cables0 -

....oh yes, my same work colleague recently confessed to having not one but TWO £110 'kettle' type mains plug leads he bought for his sound system, even he is embarassed about that one with hindsight
