Sorry for being dim here, but what's the point of adding the veg, is it just to flavour the water that the beef cooks in?

Just thought I would bump this to the top to see if there was any other last minute advice before cooking the brisket tomorrow.

My plan at the moment is to quater one onion, chop a couple of carrots and some celery and put on bottom of Slow Cooker. Season the beef and rub some freshly mushed garlic into it. Put beef in slow cooker. Add cold water covering two thirds of the meat. Leave on low all day.....

Come home, ditch the veg, turn juice into gravy. Enjoy!!!!

the only parts I have read conflicting comments on is how much water to add. Some people say just cover the bottom, others say cover three quaters of the meat, and whether I should bother browning the beef first?

Whoooo Dave, why on earth would you want to ditch the veg? It remains totally edible with a lovely flavour imparted by the beef - I like to add leeks to mine as well - and you end up with a one-pot meal (oh, okay then I do like mash or rice with it as well - so two pots!).

One last stupid question. I'm assuming that the scooped out veg will be fine to eat along with the beef?

Don't scoop it out - just add the gravy grans, stir it up and use it as a thick and slightly lumpt gravy - georgeous over mash!

Yes, it's in. I can't wait to get home for a proper feast!

I have bisto powder not gravy. How do I use it without it going lumpy?

I've had a look and feel it could actually do with a bit longer. I have turned it up to high and am going to leave it for another hour or so...

    Any gravy powder tips?
