What a great idea. Why don't we complement the existing recipe indexes with pictures of them actually being made?
I have a GORGEOUS brisket recipe just waiting to be cooked - I'd be more than happy to take pics when I cook it again!
I'm up for that. I took the pictures on my mobile phone, transferred them to my computer, cropped and resized them in Paint Shop Pro, uploaded them to my website and linked to them on here. Wasn't that difficult to do (although I do work in IT).
But I'd be happy to do it (being a bit of a show-off), and enjoying the process too! :rotfl:SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"0 -
Ooops, I think cooking it for 17 hours may have been a little bit too long. It did not look great when I examined it this morning. All the onions looked burnt and the beef itself looked a bit over cooked. Things didn't look any better when I took it out of the cooker either.
However, when I sliced it up, it wasn't that bad inside. It does taste a teeny tiny bit burnt which spoils it a bit, but it'll be fine for sarnies.
I had to be careful slicing it up as it fell to bits if I put to much pressure on the knife.
I'll try again next week with some topside and not leave it so long. To be honest it looked about done last night at about 11, but I thought I'd let it cook a bit longer for extra tenderness. Didn't think it'd burn.
Anyway, for some reason I cant logon to my webspace this morning so I've uploaded the pictures of the end result to the public gallery area of my Google Photos account. Which I've just discovered I can link too:SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Well done, what a success, looks ok inside to me, I always soak in gravy for sandwiches anyway. Ok makes a mess of my chin/clothes when the gravy drips out, but yum! Admittedly use an electric knife or the slicer I bought for doing meat that comes out of slow cooker, or like you say it's so tender it falls apart.
You've inspired me, next time I go to the farm shop I am going to buy a brisket, how much are those diddy bottles of wine ? I don't drink so would be a waste buying a large bottle just for cooking, but it makes lovely gravyOne day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200

I think the packets of sliced beef in Lidl were about £1.99 for four slices... and the slices were only about 15 microns thick! So this is a bargain. The bottle of wine wasn't very expensive, I think it was something like £1.50. Next time I pop in I'll have another look as I need another bottle now, they do white too which I used with some chicken.SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. If you like! We're not having the beef though. We've just put up an Italian lodger and he's promised to cook for us tonight! Not sure what we're having, but I'm sure it'll be good.SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" My mum always cooks (flat not rolled) brisket in the oven with a packet of french onion soup mix. She sprinkles half a packet under the meat, the other half over the meat and then pours on a big mugful of water. She covers it in foil and cooks it for hours. By the time its done its super tender and has its own beef and onion gravy. I'm sure it would work just as well in a slow cooker.0

Hi Amanda,
This thread should help:
What would you do with a 1.85KG Beef Brisket in a slow cooker?
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep all the suggestions together.
