Ok thanks. Phew, thought I might be stung with some penalty or something :o

...do watch...there have been suggestions they may start making charges for 'dormant' accounts.....so may be good idea to close any earlier issues of accounts that you no longer use.

A lot of people seem to have had problems closing these accounts. The T&Cs require you to write to them to close the esaver (Santander, PO Box 297, Bradford, BD1 1BR). A bit quaint, but it worked for me. I requested the tax certificate online and transferred out the balance first.

I also opened a new esaver without any problem and linked it to my current account. Am I the only person in the UK not to have had any problems (so far) with Santander?

Nope, you are not. I do worry when I see all these experiences but you and I Sceptic seem at the moment not to suffer any difficulties.

    All the best,

Santander current account T&Cs have recently been revised to allow them to charge for dormant accounts but this does not currently seem to apply with savings accounts.
