Santander ESavings Account?

Options
Hi I had opened a 'Santander esaver' account until I opened NatWest's latest web saver. Wasn't too keen anyway from what I'd read about Santander & their customer service. Any way decided to go with NatWest with my savings. Just checking is the only way off closing the Santander account by letter or phone. Can you close the Esaver online. Also would have thought a direct debit form to attach an external bank to, would have come with confirmation details of account? Instead you have to ring for one. It would just be easier like with Egg Savings how you can just add a debit card for payment in & out

Thx

Closing Santander / A&L accounts has been a bit a bit chaotic recently, according to a number of reports on other threads.

You might find this thread of some interest.

    Yes, DO watch this one.

Main problems are with Alliance and Leicester Premier Saver. Been trying to close my wife's since August. STILL no joy, despite three visits to branch. Staff are extremely apologetic. ASSURE you that they will close the account.

But the fact is, THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO IT.

So it's as if their computer systems are a sort of train out of control. No-one can stop it. Mind of its own. Underfunding fee on account that should have been closed causes "Unauthorised Overdraft Fee", and by the time they remove that, another Underfunding Fee switches in etc. Ad infinitum.

It is evidenced by the fact that they will not "Do it" in your presence on their machine. They will get you to sign papers for the third time. And then hope that they can find someone in Head Office to 'stop the train'. If you ask them to do it, they claim they need someone's signature etc. But I feel a sledgehammer to their computer is the only way they will ever stop it.
  • I'd rather not trust Santander if I can help it. I opened up a current account with them and they put all sorts of charges on without my really understanding why.It took me ages to close it down too as the morons on the other end of the 'phone didn't have a clue.

A lot of people seem to have had problems closing these accounts. The T&Cs require you to write to them to close the esaver (Santander, PO Box 297, Bradford, BD1 1BR). A bit quaint, but it worked for me. I requested the tax certificate online and transferred out the balance first.

I also opened a new esaver without any problem and linked it to my current account. Am I the only person in the UK not to have had any problems (so far) with Santander?

Just wondering why you have to close down a esaver account. I had one last year and then opened another one this April to get the higher rate and transferred what I had in the old one to the new one. Havent done anything about shutting down the old one. Should I and why:question: TIA

Did the same with natwest esaver accounts i.e. open new one and just transfer over funds from old one.
