really considering quiting ebay

just this week, we've had
to open 3 non payment claims,
received 2 broken items,
and sold 1 collection only item, and now the buyer is kicking of that we won't let them send a courier firm to collect and pay by cheque after they have inspected the item

we have only had 1 good transaction as buyers or sellers all week, someone please convince me that ebay isn't really evil

It is evil. You should leave (all the buyers for me ;))

You were obviously selling the wrong things then. I've had virtually no problems at all, and i've corresponded with some really lovely people all over the world.

I love my holidays too much to give up such a profitable place.

Then you haven't been selling for long. If I list something now for £4.99 it costs me 15p. It used to cost me 20p listing fee plus 15p gallery fee.

FVFs have gone up, but i prefer having the higher costs on when I sell rather than higher costs just for listing. I don't think paypal fees have changed, but now I have a micro account I'm even saving there as well
I just wish I'd persevered with trying to get a micro account years ago instead of giving up when paypal made it too difficult.

Concentrate on the £4.50 you do have, not the 50p you don't. That makes it worthwhile for me. And it's still the best value for money out there. The alternative is quite often not selling at all.

That said, it's been a relatively slow few months for me and now that I have sold everything I had to sell which was a dead cert to fetch a good price, I'm leaving everything else I have for Christmas. I haven't bought an awful lot in the past year or so so there is nothing like the numbers of DVDs or books that I've wanted to sell on after watching/reading them in the past. In previous years that's worked well for me, but not this year :(. For the most part I think it's the economy rather than eBay itself.

Have you changed your mind I thought you said in another thread that you only got conned 20% of the time.
I have sold on ebay for years and have had a few problems but you need to remember that a problem sale always sticks in your mind more than a sale where nothing goes wrong as if it all goes right you do not have to do anything at all.
Stick with it and things will turn around if not then consider what you are buying and selling and if there is another catagory that will give you a better return without so many problems.
There are hundreds of catagories on ebay and if you sell worldwide you will find there is someone out there who is willing to buy whatever it is you are selling.

Alternatively if you don't want to buy there, there is no reason to feel forced to do so. If it doesn't work for you, then there is no real loss in stopping buying there.

So you have jumped to 66% cons instead of the 20% in your other post.

Go and take a chill pill and get some perspective.
