I got these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SOLID-PINE-BUNK-BEDS-/280562908902?pt=Beds_Mattresses&hash=item4152da3ee6
Offered £125 and was accepted. Excellent quality and great service and delivery. Got mattresses from www.coopbedshop.co.uk (sale on at the moment)0 -
Me and my sisters used to have wooden ones, it's also pretty easy to clean them properly and they do seem sturdier (we used to jump from the top bunk onto the single bed and they never broke on us)** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

To start with don't buy one from Argos, as they don't sell good quality beds, unless they charge a fortune for them.
As for wood or metal, there are godd ones and bad ones of both type. If you shop on line you should be able to get far more for your money.
Beware of offers that include mattresses, as the ones that are usually included tend to be very low quality budget ones, that you can feel the springs through.
Both metal and wood bunks can creak. What you have to do to stop this is assemble them as normal, then after about 3 nights use re-tighten the bolts again. This should take up any slack.0 -
Wooden ones, for all the above reasons. The metal ones would drive me insane with the creaking. DH's nan bought a set for ours when they were little. They've been through several moves, and several kids both as bunks, and singles- oh, and dozens of stickers...We replaced the slats on one with hardboard, but aside from that they've been brilliant. They're not needed now but they're in a dismantled heap in the loft just incase they ever should beDTD...Dreading The Detox.0

Wooden here again. Bought our 14 years ago - very similar to your ebay link. Pretty sure we got them from a DIY shed for just under £100. Now split into 2 and still going strong. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Wooden here too. We bought ours with mattresses from an independent local shop for less than £300. And that was for mattresses that weren't the cheapest either. I would say stay away from the big retailers and have a look around0

I would go for wooden ones that can be split later if needed. I've had wood and metal in the past. The metal were good in that they seemed to be dismantled and put together again more easily but definitely more cranky and noisy but lighter and took up less room than the wooden ones.
Not much help I know but if I had the money I would go wood.Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine.0 -
I have white wooden argos bunkbeds for my twins and they are not cheap and nasty at all. In fact when I unpacked them the wood was labelled flexa which is a very good make of bunk beds and I presume just repackaged for argos. I have had them 3 or 4 years and they are as good as new still.0

Those look like the ones I have for my boys - they are great, really sturdy and don't make any noise.
I would choose wood over metal any day, mine have never broken any slats.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
