Bunk beds - metal or wood?

Hi
I am after getting a set of bunk beds, I have a 6 year old an a toddler who is still in his cot bed.
I have a top maximum of £300 to spend but obviously would like to get some cheaper if poss but not ones that will break easily.

I was looking at some white wood ones in argos that are sold out, I like the look of some of the metal ones but am unsure how sturdy these would be.

Also I would prefer it if I could split them into 2 seperate beds incase I find a 3 bed property or something, is this possible with metal?

What sort of bunk beds do you have , anyone got any recommendations please?

SWE-BUN-SORIA90-X_SILVER.jpg£243 from co-operative bed shop. includes mattress and can be split into singles. free delivery

Having had children and both wooden and metal bunks, i would never buy wooden again as they just kept breaking the slats.

Alot of the cheaper bunks at argos cant be split

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have 3 children, 2 sleep in a wooden bunk bed, 1 sleeps on a metal high bed.

For cosiness the wooden bunk beds are better, they also appear sturdier, but then that might be because of the high legs on the high bed. The wooden bunk beds easily split into 2 singles, they are basically 2 beds that join via the corner posts with pegs and screws.

    I'd go wooden every time.

    Wood every time.
Most metal beds squeak. The higher it is, the more likely it is to creak & squeak.

If kids are breaking the wooden slats tell them not to jump on their beds! :D

    Metal.
If they squeak, the frames probably need tightening up - just need an Allen key.
Wood WILL break (my FIL sat on DS's wooden bunk bed and broke it - so not just kids!).

Another one for wood. We found ds's creaked so much it had to be replaced. Also, the ladder steps were so thin ( like a metal pole) that they hurt his feet and didn't seem that safe for a sleepy child.

Edit : meant to say ds's metal bed

They look lovely - good and sturdy. My children still sleep on the wooden bunk beds that my brother had 35 years ago.

Many metal bed still have wooden slats. The one me and bro used to share has wooden slats. Defiantly creeks more than the old wooden one.

mine had metal bunk beds, they creaked a lot, despite being tightened often, bars on steps were so thin they hurt their feet.
the wooden ones seem sturdier and stronger
