Not fit for purpose - Maplins runaround
Comments

I find it a bit unusual that the packaging doesn't say on the back, anywhere, what size jack is included. I can't think of a single set of headphones I sell that doesn't state it on there around the same place it mentions the frequency range etc.0

The main difference is in the size of the 6.35 mm TSR Plug, which are a lot bigger than the 3.5 mm. Also, the packaging would show the size of cable to the head phone, normally on a mp3 player this is a lot finer, than the respective DJ styl, which i doubt would fit into the same cardbored box..
(Maplins claim its not their fault, its skullcady's because they supplied them saying they were dj headphones.)
We did ask to check them in store but they said THEY were not allowed to open them, but did agree to us returning them if they werent right when my partner said "if I open them and they arent suitable can I bring them back?"
The plug is a small one (3.5) on the headphones, and it is the large one we explained went into the mixer!
The cable was ENTIRELY hidden by the packaging. The cable was completely hidden by a large cardbaord surround which is way oversized for the tiny cable in the box.
Like the picture here : but our packaging box only has the silver skullcandy bit and also does not have ipod/iphone on it at the top. It doesnt have anything on it about the cable. It does give a jack size but he's not good with that, which is why he explained it was a large one that goes into a mixer.
As I said, there was quite detailed discussion about what he wanted, over two visits. It was not that we just "bought the wrong one," we were advised that these fitted his critera. We did not have the benefit of looking it up online, so relied on shop staff.0 -
OP, the first website you showed us only lists two SkullCandy headphones that they claim to be DJ Headphones.
Both those cost £95.95, almost twice as much as you paid.
Here they are.
It is clear to me that you are relying entirely on what you claim they told you in the shop. They, of course, can deny it all day long.
Who will win? I guess nothing will change from the situation now.
They will keep the money and you keep the headphones.
Sell them on ebay.
Just to add:It does give a jack size but he's not good with that...As I said, there was quite detailed discussion about what he wanted, over two visits. We did not have the benefit of looking it up online, so relied on shop staff.
Surely you could have found a moment to look it up online sometime between your two visits to the shop.0 -
I cant see how a professional DJ doesn't know his head phones or buying stuff in maplin when there's much cheaper places out there. Stuff that they shop assiants say can never be taken as fact.
You can get a 3.5 to 1/4 inch adaptors

I don't think this would come under unfit for purpose they'll work as headphone any set of headphone will work as DJ headphone. Ones that claim to be DJ headphone is just marketing talk.0 -
Additionally, if you used terminology as imprecise as that as you have been using in this thread then it is not suprising that you got something which did not match your criteria. I wish you luck but I think Maplin are not the only party at error here.Thinking critically since 1996....0

Shouldnt have gone to maplins for them, i didnt have them down as a store for being experts on dj equipment0

The staff in Maplins are a bunch of pompous eejits who know jack all about electronics.
OP in the long run you and your partner will be quids in because you'll never shop again at that overpriced excuse for a retail establishment. Buy online. You'll get the stuff delivered to your door and it'll still be miles cheaper than Maplins.0 -
Here are skullcandy headphones that are advertised as djphones, and not djstyle. You'll see the difference.
http://www.juno.co.uk/products/341893-01.htm
Long Thick coiled cable, larger jack, with screw on jack adapter etc.
All explained to maplin staff on TWO occasions.
I
And a completely different headphonbe set, available in the USA for more than the £50 partner was prepared to pay.
AND COMES WITH AN MP3 SOCKET, 3.5 mm tsr socket to the initiated. And comes with an adapter. I will giove you the fact it has a better cable connecting plug to MP3 adapter though.
Now, what is the original problem. partner went out as some qualified DJ, did not want to pay over £50 for the headphones, and did not get what he wanted. That be the problem.
You were Freddied yesterday, I am afraid I can offer you no absolution for your misgivings on purchasing something chaeper and not as what you wanted. Though can search the internet to show us, after the fact, what you wanted to but, but alas, you did not ask for that item, nor did you purchase that item.
There are available on amazon for £79. That is £30 more than you wanted to pay.

I think the problem is the fact you are saying you need a "dj style" headphones. Personally I see this as over the head band type of headphones, not necessarily for djing.
My djing headphones do not have the coil type wire (dont really see any that do nowadays), not does it have a lock on jack (if I was to tug too much on my headphones, i can easily put the jack back in, trying to repair the broken wiring whilst djing on the other hand is much harder).
Although my mixer does take types of jack sizes, ive used an mp3 sized jack with an adapter and had no problems at all.
More importantly is the sound levels (amplification, frequency, noise ratio, outside noise isolation etc) to dj properly. As long as he isnt djing in major clubs (then you would need to be spending £100+ on shure, technics, or sennheisers etc) then they will most prob be fineSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0
