Or, along the same lines as MrsHoneybun suggested, but give them the number of a premium rate "chat" line

I'd start by saying "Yes this is Paul" and keep them talking until you get a good idea what they want and who they are. Then go the TPS route if the calls are from the UK.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0

Thank you for the replies...........but
i'm female................so saying i'm paul............well it doesn't really work............but
i managed to find pauls surname, and yesterday his address, i looked it up in the phone book and guess what i got his number.
say mine is 363366
his is 363636
not a lot out but it is..........................
today after 8 missed calls at home of which i did not recognise any oe the 8 and then 4 that i answered...................i decided to ring paul
i gave him my name, and then i told him my phone number, and told him how it was like his, then i explained how i'd been getting lots of phone calls for him....................no interest............i told him they are p***ing me off............and asked him, to contact any company he'd contacted to change his phone number...............he told me he'd contacted no-one and under no circumstanses was i to give his phone number out................................
Daft me said 'ok'......................get a life when anyone rings for him i'm giving out his number..............let him deal with the crack i've had for weeks.0 -
"Paul" obviously has something to hide then. Give out his number and let him deal with the flak since he seems so mature over it

Thought it was something to do with his phone number! Glad you have got to the bottom of it!
It quite satisfying when you research things yourself and find an answer. He sounds unfriendly! You would think he would be apologising to you!0 -

Definitely - although maybe not a great idea to have given Paul your number.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0
