I also have been looking at getting a new tv and have been told buy a better quality 720p then a cheaper. I will be using mine for gaming only and was told 720p sp things wont be getting scaled, Also agree on the comment any thing smaller than 40" get 720p.
Most 720P tvs arnt actually 720 (usually 768 IIRC), so it probably WILL be scaled
Of course any 1080i or 1080P material will also be scaled
many tvs also have an 'overscan' which means it also reduces quality:idea:0
