Its funny, I was reading this thread Thursday night, went to work at the library yesterday and what should turn up, but a guide to studying in Australia and New Zealand. It made a particularly compelling argument for studying in a lower grade uni: study at the University of the Elephant and Castle/South Bank Poly or whatever its called nowadays, pay a fortune cost of living, or study in Queensland, pay $80 rent per week and sunbathe when you aren't studying. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? That was the good thing about university, meeting and studying with people of different ages, countries, backgrounds, religions. Its a real mixing pot and you learn more about life than just the degree. Other countries travel all over the world to learn and pick up languages. It makes sense we travel and do the same thus losing less money.:exclamatiScams - Shared Equity, Shared Ownership, Newbuy, Firstbuy and Help to Buy.

But you're not exactly average.
The type of students who should go aboard because they win financially is not likely to be the ones that do.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

England set to be world's most expensive country for university education
1 October 2010
Analysis by UCU of fees charged by publicly-funded universities around the world reveals that increasing fees to £5,000-a-year would be enough to give England the unenviable tag of supplier of the world's most expensive degrees."0 -
Tax Allowances going up next year must mean that house prices will also go up as people have more to spend...Huge student fees to limit house prices further?
or
Interest rates remaining low must mean that people will buy more houses...
or

for the love of god Brit... not everything that happens in the UK is linked to house prices...0 -
Yep.they;d have to earn over 21k and most likely lose a 9% 'tax' on any earnings above that
That's the money that would have been saved towards a deposit and later used to pay the mortgage!
As I've long argued, we're heading back down to 60% home ownership from 70%+ under the Thatcherite home owning democracy.
P.S. My baby_boomer luck has held out to the end. My last progeny, applying this year, will "only" pay £3,300 pa uni fees - not £7K to £12K. But I'll probably encourage him to save rather than hit the housing market, in the knowledge that prices might fall given the indebted graduates following on.0 -
No, but the reverse is true - house prices are determined by major economic changes in the UK - they're not just in some kind of vacuum.0

My best mate was working in the Czech Republic at the same time, and my then-unmet-OH was in India....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I must confess to having not read the thread. My initial thought was that the title was clutching at straws a little for a bearish perspective. That said, I am suprised to see the beeb have picked up on this very trend, as reported by a mortgage broker!

i find it hard to believe that the majority of uk students will uproot en masse to european universities unless said european universities are going to start teaching their courses in english.0
