Nationwide to start a new log in procedure.

It looks like Nationwide are going to follow Barclays example and require customers to log in via their card readers.

Bad news as far as I am concerned.

  • As long as they follow Barclays current example and allow a basic viewing of the accounts without the card reader I can probably just about live with it.

I am beginning to wonder what else they can come up with though to force FlexAccount customers to close their accounts!

I have heard about this from people but nothing from nationwide yet.

Natwest / RBS allow most things unless you need to set up a new payment then you need the card reader.

    [STRIKE]Or...

... they may be moving the 'select letter x, y and z from your password' to a separate page.

This increases security as it ensures that until a successful login happens then it wont ask for different letters. i.e. if I know the first half of your password then at the current time I could refresh the page until it ask for letters that fall within the section I know
    [/STRIKE]

    Edit: See next post

    here's the low-down: http://www.nationwide.co.uk/rca/frequently-asked-questions/faqs-card-reader-at-signon.htm

Initially you'll have the option of both, eventually, it will be mandatory.

I used to use NW as my main current account but since they slashed their savings rates to punitive levels and Lloyds started paying 4% on their current ac I switched to them. I still make the occasional transaction from my NW account but the new sign procedure will put a stop to that. It is more trouble than it is worth. Shame- cos the interface is a good one.

The management have made the mistake of confusing change with improvement :(

I hold out the vain hope that the transitionary period turns out to be as long as Faster Payments took them.

Once it becomes mandatory, my Nationwide account will become dormant as a combination of PITA card reader log in, low Faster Payments limits, near-worthless travel insurance and the distain Nationwide's senior managers have shown to the views of customers/members means the FlexAccount will rank well down the current account provider list for me.

Yes Faster payments was more important.

Your account looks like its going the same way as my account. I even shredded the cards as I dont use the accounts anymore. Looks like I need to order them again.
