I think if you've been responsible, and not decided to milk the system by having 10 kids that you want someone else to pay while you do nothing, you should be fine on 26k. It's still a hell of a lot of money and equivalent to earning well over 33k before tax and NI.

If people out there on these kind of benefits don't think so, they should take a long hard look at themselves.
Have owned outright since Sept 2009, however I'm of the firm belief that high prices are a cancer on society, they have sucked money out of the economy, handing it to banks who've squandered it.

The real answer is, of course, that rents should come down. By a lot. Everywhere.

So you think there will be this mass population movement away from London?

Anyone actually know what percentage of London's 7.5m odd people are actually living purely on benefits? And how many of those will be affected by the cap on total benefits claimed?

    No.

If they're too lazy to work they'll be too lazy to move!

I was taking one of my kids to school this morning, when I passed some no-good lay-about obviously heading off to the job centre, moaning on about how a cleaning job was going to belittle him (and he wasn't going to do it).... this is the type of person that the government needs to sort and quickly. No intention of putting anything in ever, and has never put anything in before, just always on the take ...

You seem to be able to tell an awful lot about someone just by passing them and hearing a tiny snippet of conversation. Either that or you just made this up.

Umm, why is £500 too little? The local reference rent in Outer London for a 2 bed flat is £200-230. That's due to drop when the changes in LHA go through. Add £20/wk council tax, and that still leaves £250/wk for living expenses. So, it's no problem at all for normal-size families. I really cannot for the life of me see why taxpayers should pay silly rents for people to live in the prime central London boroughs.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

£500 wk cap is not enough for most families to pay rent/council tax and have enough to live on in London.

Even if they could find somewhere to live in London for less than £300 wk rent/council tax they would prefer to live far away from London where less than half of their £500wk cap would go on rent and council tax.

Bad news for the royals. I assume that they're having their benefits capped too?

Even if he/she made it up, it wouldn't be too far away from the truth. At least half of the domestic workers in my local hospital are polish and yet the jobseeker office are pack full everyday with British.... I would think the reason for this is people on jobseeking allowance or other benefits are not interested in doing these jobs but rather want something that will earn them easy money, or better still, just continue living off benefits that the government are giving them....

No. Something that is made up is not the truth.

I do not dispute that we have a problem in this country with the above, but assuming things and/or making up nonsense, even in an anecdotal sense, is the kind of false "evidence" that creates more more problems than it solves.
