They are wriggling out of the deal.
Why can't they just be truthful?
Heres the confirmation they originally sent:
"Sent: Wednesday, February 16, 2005 7:48 PM
Subject: Your Subscription Order

Dear Subscriber

Thank you for your subscription to RIP & BURN

Your order reference number is"
I then e-mailed them as below

"Hi.
On your offer page it claims I recieve free headphones with the 3
editions for £1.
Could you confirm please?"
They replied with:
"Thank you for your email,
I am afraid that the closing date for this offer was the 15/2/05, any order placed after this date will not receive the Headphones."
So I replied with:
"Sorry,but your page does now say that the offer ended on the 16/02.
As I placed the order on that date please could you honour it?"
So they replied thus:
"Unfortunately, we are unable to supply you with the free gift as this promotion has now closed.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused by this"
Finally,in desperation,I replied as below




"Hello again.
Sorry to go on about this,but I am well aware the offer has now closed.
My point is that I placed the order on THE 16TH OF FEB,when the offer was
still on,then was told it closed on the 15th.
This is not the case,as your offer page now clearly spells out.Click link

Now they won't even acknowledge or reply.

ive just recieved confirmation of my subscription in the post and it mentions nothing about the headphones so ive decieded to cancel. the letter says you're free to cancel at any time, but other people mentioned that someone on the phone said there would be a cancellation fee. so now that ive cancelled can they or will they charge me? it mentions nothing on their website so i would of thought they couldnt

I got the reply below when I said I would prefer to cancel, I think it's lousy that they won't honour the headphones due to their processing, and asking to cancel means ' not until July'

'Thank you for your e-mail regarding your subscription to Rip & Burn.
Unfortunately, as your order was not processed until the following day you have been set up on the new offer of 3 issues for £1 instead.
We can confirm that we have cancelled your subscription on its expiry which is the issue dated July 2005 and no further payments will be taken.
Please ensure you also cancel these instructions with your bank.
If we can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.'

Can we report them to trading standards?

1)Advertise free gift
2)Keep moving the dates
3)Don't get the idea of the word 'cancel'


Doesn't seem right to me. I particularly hated the 'ring back in 3 days as you won't be on our system' delay when I first spoke to customer services about the website order. They even told me to place a second order so I could guarantee the headphones via a telephone operator.

I also ordered over the phone on 11/02. I have confirmation but no mention of headphones.

If they don't send my headphones, is Haymarket Magazines Ltd breaking the law?

I've had a confirmation letter today but no mention of headphones, I cant remember what date I ordered it but it was before anyone mentioned the offer was now over.
