Brizzle, I know what you mean about kids expenses. I really hate putting back £12.50 each Sunday for the week's school dinners. And he only buys rubbish to eat. Unfortunatley its not very cool for teenage boys to take pack lunch apparently

I must remember to add this to the budget list and his pocket money.

Suggest that if he doesn't start to eat healthy then he will get packed lunches instead LOL.

More seriously though, well done on starting to take control. It feels good doesn't it

Still in credit this week. Its funny how listing the expenditure and watching the total going down stops me from frittering. I nearly cried last night when I had to part with some change to get some milk for home.

Today I will be spending as DS is off school so I couldn't 'steal' the last of the bread to make sarnies for work (I was trying to hold out buying anymore until tomorrow). One good thing is the shop by work is shut so I have to rely on the canteen. Also the money on my vending key is running out and I only have a little change in my purse - so I can't spend much. I've just found some skinny mocha sachets in my work which will do for brekkie :)

Tomorrow will be more of a test as both DH and I will be off work and its one of the times where I can walk into a shop and come out £30 lighter without thinking.

Skinny mocha for breakfast?? Actually my breakfast normally consist of coffee too and I work from home mainly ;)

You are making me giggle with your spending comments Pen, I can just see you thinking shall I just go without the milk until tomorrow :rotfl: Know what you mean, when in the right mindset it's very hard to part with the cash!!
  • I'm already trying to work out how to go to the shops without DH tomorrow so that I can get the bread without spending more :D

Found 2 sausage rolls for 50p in the works canteen (I can't bear to part with £2 for a sarnie now). I also hide cupasoup in my drawer so that's lunch sorted.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

Ha ha....:rotfl:.......sorry DH but you can't come to the shops tomorrow as you make me spend far too much money! :rotfl:Perhaps you could just go with £10 in purse/wallet so that you don't spend any more than this??

Yum to the sausage rolls and cupasoup....sorted for lunch....I had me a crisp sarnie - not so good for the diet but I just had one of those stodge urges and had to be done....normally don't eat white bread either and have seeded batch in freezer for myself....oops :o
  • I love crisp sarnies. We get through a lot of those with a teenager in the house. Another speciality is cheesy crisps (crisps with grated cheese melted in the microwave).

Hi, I've been lurking in your diary here and I just wanted to jump in on this one.

I have a teenage boy - he takes a packed lunch into school and so do the vast majority of his friends. No-one sees it as uncool. My son would never cope without it as he is ravenous by break time and scoffs at least half of it then. There is also no way that £2.50 would be enough to buy at school what he eats (3 pieces of fruit, a muffin, a small chocolate bar, 1.5 rounds of sandwiches, a yogurt).

I used to work in a secondary school and more than half the students had packed lunches. There were great packs of rowdy teenage boys busily working their way through their lunchboxes and many of these boys would consider themselves the very height of cool-dude. :D

Perhaps in sixth form (not sure how old your son is) it is less common but that tends to be because parents stop making them a packed lunch and they are too lazy to make their own (it's how it works in this house anyway). By then, they should have a part-time job and be paying for their own spends, in my view.:)

Mmmmmmmmm, I have to try this!!!!
  • Shopping issues sorted - DS is off school again today so DH can stay home to keep him company :D

Didn't have to do the school run but still up early, although it looks like being a lovely sunny day here so can't moan.

I need to take DS to the doctors later then I think I might go for a wander to get some stocking fillers. I also need to get in the roof and get the wrapping paper and cards down before I convince myself to get more.

One of the cats is trying to lie down my arm and across the keyboard. Think they might want feeding.

  • I had an expensive shop today but it sort of balances out. We were meant to be going out with friends on a rare night out but due to child caring issues everyone's coming to ours instead.

So I ended up getting beer and wine in. It was less expensive than two of us going out and I know that everyone will bring some more so fingers crossed it means we'll have some surpluss to put back for Christmas.

Also its DS's last week of cooking at school which will help as they've been doing recipies that take expensive spices and ingredients that we just don't keep at home. What ever happened to making a victoria sponge or apple pie! Next week's meal wants 4 chicken breasts (there are only 3 of us), coconut milk, curry paste etc and we don't even really like it.

Luckily the cupboards are still full from the big shop so I can meal plan easily. Fajitas today and the pork I got cheap last week for sunday lunch tomorrow.

Other than that we don't have any money now to spend. I can just and just shuffle things around so petrol doesn't push me into the red and I've enough change hanging about to do school lunches. We'll manage somehow :) I am determined not to use a CC or go into the red before payday.

  • Just dying my hair brown as I can't afford to pay for highlights anymore. Depressing but it will look better than walking around with over an inch of dark roots. £5 dye vs £55 hairdresser visit, no brainer really :)
