Am I mad to be considering a DFS sofa

here is my problem
we need a new sofa. the current one is 13 years old and is an IKEA sofa which has now bust. its 210cm wide and I dont want anything wider than that, its only 88cm deep and I dont want anything too much deeper although most sofas these days are. the seating area is 170cm and I dont want seating area much less than this, but could go down to 160cm I suppose.
the room is whitish, shabby chic looking, and I was hoping to get someting that looks like it fits in, although it doesnt have to be too classic, some modernish styles look ok too.
however, I am very fussy about what it feels like and what the colour would be. I have tried a load of sofas and most are too soft. I dont like the idea of buying online and then it not feeling right.
ideally, if possible I would like to have a sofa bed there because it would give us more space, but find that the sofa bed options are often too modern looking or much bigger.
we travelled for hours to sofasandstuff, some of theirs are nice but v expensive and they dont do any interest free. again the nicer looking ones are too soft and the sofa bed options are quite big but there are 2 possibilities
we went to john lewis, cant find the right size and shape, marks and spencers, cant find the right size and shape or try out the ones i like, furniture village, far too soft and none i really liked, harveys, cant stand any of them, ikea, almost perfect except that the sofa bed one is too big
so i have seen this in dfs, i havent tried it for comfort, i might not even like it, but its about the only one that might do for size (although it doesnt state the seating area, might be too small)
do they really fall apart?? its going to be a main sofa, used ALL the time

we also dont have much money.

Do you have any local (e.g family run) furniture shops in your area? The big names tend to be expensive (someone's got to pay for all that advertising!) and you don't get the customer service you often get at the smaller independent stores. Just a thought. If you will the end, you must will the means.0

If you don't have much money then I'd say do not buy from DFS as you'll need to replace it long before you've finished paying for it. They really are very poor quality imo.
If you want a decent-quality sofa I'd keep my eyes peeled for a good second-hand one. Some people seem to replace furniture at the drop of a hat just because they've grown tired of it. I bought a beautiful Sofa Workshop three-seater in an auction on ebay for £50 and it's still in pristine condition four years later.0 -
DFS buy 1 get 1 free nothing to pay for 5 yrs intrest free 99p deposit
and it will be knackered after 1 yr0 -
I'm lying on my sofa which I bought from DFS 9 years ago - it's cream leather and looks a but tatty, but still comfortable enough and it has a lot of use.
One thing I would say is make sure that the seat cushions are removable, as mine are sewn in and did go flat quite quickly as I wasn't able to turn them or plump them up.0 -
to be honest i doubt i will find the size, colour and feel that im looking for second hand, it would be a one in a million chance
i have heard all the bad stuff about them but we dont have any 'local' stores here, the only one i saw is a sort of department store in anearby town but their stuff quite honestly is 70s style and lumpy, horrible
if i accepted that i would get a sofa and not a sofa bed there is more choice, i would probably go for ikea, the ektorp is almost identical to the one i have now, in fact i have ektorp loose covers on it, its virtually the same size, plus they are cheap, plus this one has lasted 13 years
some of these places that ive seen on the net, like sofa workshop i cant get to to have a look and sit on them, other places dont have all their stock out0 -
oh, tell a lie, i was confusing sofaworkshop with sofasofa, i am looking at sofa workshop now, but not sure if they will have sofa beds and i dont think they do interest free0

I got a leather sofa on order for BHS its coming in November. I paid around £1600 and got interest free credit for 6 months and £160 of BHS vouchers when they eventually come
Mu last sofa a leather one has lasted almost 15 years which we got from local firm Sinclairs has had lot of use and only just starting to get a little worn, we mainly getting rid though because of the colour its light pink0 -
bhs only have 3 fabric sofas and i dont like any of them. checked next, dont really like their styles and the sofa beds are the wrong size for me0
-
dont do it....read the threads in here and elswhere...dfs entice people in with cheap credit but sell awful quality goods0
-
trouble is, i am looking at sofa workshop, only some of their stuff comes with 10 year guarantees, i think the rest have a 5 year guarantee, plus of course no interest free, plus they are more expensive???
but they are lovely, ive seen a few that fit my needs, subject to the sitting test, plus theres a store in tonbridge, a couple of hours drive but its better than some of the places on the net0
