The linksys software, or windows wireless software has a scanner, that picks up any wireless networks in the area, the ssid is the network name (e.g. linksys). If your ssid is being broadcast, then the scanner should be able to see your router when it is switched on. if it can, it proves that wireless is switched on and working, but the association with the router is the problem
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • Go to 192.168.1.1 then enter your username and password. Then go to the "Wireless" tab if any. The "Basic Wireless Settings" tab

Wireless Network Mode: Disabled Mixed B-Only G-Only
    Wireless Network Name (SSID): linksys01
    Wireless Channel: 1- 2.412 GHz 2 - 2.417 GHz 3 - 2.422 GHz 4 - 2.427 GHz 5 - 2.432 GHz 6 - 2.437 GHz 7 - 2.442 GHz 8 - 2.447 GHz 9 - 2.452 GHz 10 - 2.457 GHz 11 - 2.462 GHz 12 - 2.467 GHz 13 - 2.472 GHz {any does not matter really unless you have a B network car on a laptop of something}
    Wireless SSID Broadcast: Enable Disable

The go to the "Wireless security" tab.
    Security Mode: WEP, etc...
    Encryption: 128-bit, etc....
    Passphrase: anything
    WEP Key 1: 4D81190CA961C807FB0FFAECDA

Then go to the "Wireless Access" tab

    Allow All
    Restrict Access

Prevent listed computers from accessing the wireless network
Permit only listed computers to access the wireless network
  • Note that the WEP key 1 is real thing when you enter the passphrase as "anything".

Without the "" ofcourse. If you need more help just ask.

wpa with a long 63 character random key is more secure than wep.. also when you get it working, turn off ssid broadcasting.

  • Hi all,

Similar problem with she, but the only difference is that i have a new desktop pc. I was using BT broadband basic on my old laptop which uses the bt voyager105 modem.

yesterday, i got the set of Wireless-G ADSL Gateway with SpeedBooster (WAG54GS) with Firmware Version: V1.00.06 plus the adapter from Curry's.

i uninstalled the bt voyager modem and configured both the adapter and gateway. Although the router is working, it cannot see an internet connection. in the end i realized that my bt username was wrong. so i corrected it. thought it was going to be ok already. in the status tab, all the ip addresses are shown. All my settings seem to be okay, but it still doesnt work. Do i also need to reset the router ? or am i still missing something ?
i only have one pc, but it's upstairs, and the modem router is downstairs.

    thanks in advance guys.
  • Does, start, run, cmd

    ping https://www.google.com

    work

in the same screen, type ipconfig and report back with the ip address.

  • hi albert,

i just did type ipconfig earlier, and this is what i got, but what am i suppose to do with it ?

    the ip address is 192.168.1.100
    subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
    default gateway is 192.168.1.1

    are these not correct ?

but i will try again later on.. ping https://www.google.com ?
  • that looks ok,

if you can ping 192.168.1.1 your pc is talking to the router

if you can ping google, your PC is talking to the world, and dns is working.

which leaves ie, make sure everything in tools/internet options, connections, lan settings is unticked.

    --

if you can ping the router, but can't ping google, either you have a dns issue, or the isp login is wrong, or there is an isp/connection problem
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
