I promise I have read the very useful wireless links but still can't seem to get my router to work.
I installed it successfully a couple of weeks ago and it has been working fine. I then switched the laptop off and when I switched it on again while the wireless connection was there I couldnt access the internet. (Ethernet connection was fine).
So I powered it off and on again hoping that would help (as it usually does!) I know can't connect at all (the internet light on the router isnt on) and I can't access 192.168.1.1. to reset my settings.
I'm at a loss as to what to try anyone any suggestions?
I'm using a LInksys Wireless-G ADSL Home Gateway.
Thanks so much for your replies in advance!!

you will need to have the ethernet connection while you play around to get it working again...might be worth just turning off the router for a second then back on, also try using windows restore to go back to wen it lastedworked okEx forum ambassador

is it the blue style gateway or the silver. I have both so I can talk you thought it. Have you tryed a Hard reset of the gateway, if not take a paper clip or similer item I press the reset button for 30 seconds, then make sure that you have the RJ45 cable which is a ethernet cable can be either Cross-over (does not need a hub-can be used to connect two pc's together) or a patch cable (need a hub/router,etc..) to your computers RJ45/networking port if not done. Then Plug the other end of the cable into port 1 of the gateway. Note if using Windows XP go to "Control Panel" then "Network Connections" then make sure that the wired "Local Area Network"/Network cable" if it is greyed out and disable right click on it then click on Enable.
Then check to see if you can open 192.168.1.1 if that works and brings up the the dialog asking you for the username and password. If this does not work then you would have to try the CD that came with the gateway if you dont have the CD you can download it from Linksys themselfs.
Hope this helps you

I found it less than useless.. (like many Microsoft help wizards.)Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks for the help guys. The router is now working but the wireless still isnt able to connect to the internet. Other laptops can connect so it must be something with this one. But i don't understand as it worked a few days ago and I dont think any settings have changed. Ive disabled the firewall and tried and this doesnt seem to make any difference.
