Couples rate JSA £102 pw - Pension Credit couples rate £202pw. Are you sure you used to be an accountant because your choice seems utter madness to me?
There is a Pensioner Premium on JSA/IS/ESA though which would bring the applicable amount up towards the Pension Credit amount.

I get Contribution based JSA of £65.45pw

My wife and I together get a top up of Guaranteed Pension Credit of £5.25pw.

As you have brought that up, I can never understand why when you turn 60 or so you get an extra £100 pw. That seems crazy!! I have asked many people this question before but never did receive an reasonable answer. Why do I have more needs than a 59 year old?

Thanks for that. Yes the premium would take it up to the same level of Pension Credit.

But I claim Contribution based JSA - so that doesn't apply to me.

No, it wont apply to you if you are on JSA(C), it only applies to JSA(IB) awards.

What is that supposed to mean?

You seem to be unhappy that they haven't taken into consideration issues you haven't told them about

errr no! How could they? I purposely kept my mouth shut about that as I know they will kick me off JSA if they found out. Can't afford for that to happen.

No I was surprised that you can negotiate your JSA agreement as to hours, days worked and types of job. The other poster had an agreement that she could only work for 16 hrs pw if she wanted, whereas I was told that 30hrs pw was the minimum that they would expect from me.
I was trying to find out why the difference.

It then turned out that she had discussed her disabilities with the JC before hand.

Nope I have no complaints, but I am going down there in the morning to say that I want the agreement changed as there is no way that I can work those hours. I know that they will ask why, that is why I suggested in the post that I could use my Diabetes as an excuse instead of producing the list of illnesses/disabilities that I actually suffer from. That is the last thing I want to tell them for obvious reasons!!!!

Why though. You can only restrict your availability inline with your disability you tell them about, tell them about all of them

It seems that you have not read the entire thread.

If I told them everything like I did in Jan 2010, I would be kicked off JSA and told to claim ESA. Been there and done that. It's the type of illnesses and seriousness of them that to them (JSA) would make me unemployable!

I don't want to claim ESA it is one crazy benefit.

If I have the choice of telling all and ending up on that again or staying where I am - well here I stay!!

It is worth a chance to see if they would wear it just with Diabetes
though. If not - nothing lost.

I'll just have to hope they don't come up with a manual job of 30hrs pw - I will cross that bridge when I have to.
  • Am I just being dense here.

Why don't you just claim Pension Credit and then look for whatever work that you feel up to?

More money and no restrictions on what you choose to do - what exactly is the downside?

He mentioned before it because if you claim ESA, you can keep more money if working.

    I don't get it either.
