Thanks susank. My OH is a bit nervous as its the longest time we have been away from the family and the grandchildren, but in the 'autumn' of our lives we are looking forward to the warmth. Our small house there feels more like like home with each visit we make.:j

    take care

    Kid's bed tents at Argos

My kids had bed tents when they were little. Saved LOADS on heating at night.

Edit: Oh poop! Link doesn't work. Just search Argos's site for 'Bed' and 'Tent'
Edit 2: Oops my bad. It's working now

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.

I think it used to be common for beds to be place in what were essentially cupboards. 3 sides of wall (like you get at the side of the chimney breast) and either some doors that you could pull shut when you got in, or a heavy curtain. A tent is a similar idea although I'm not sure how comfortable it would be long term and if it wasn't it would be counter productive as we all need good sleep.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
  • I saw a program on TV a few months ago about a left-wing/green community somewhere in South London. There was a dutch or german guy (quite old now) who had a tent in his house probably for this reason. He also recycled his own excrement (possibly for heating purposes). He was to say the least a bit eccentric but perfectly content.

Curtain yourself in. Tents dont retain any heat, just condensation. We used to camp a fair bit & its pretty much freezing from 2am until the sun comes up & then you cook to the marrow until you get out of it. The amount of red wine required to make camping comfy is probably os but not very mse.
I reckon heavy curtains or blankets hung form the ceiling around your bed would be better, like a 4 poster but cheaper. Screw the hook itto the beams though or the ceiling will come down.

    Enjoy your snuggly winter.

    xx
....another happy bug.........sorry,blogger embracing the simple life
  • I was just thinking, why not erect the tent over the bed (like the kiddies bed tents from Argos), cut a hole for the feet at the bottom. Use clothes pegs to clip warm blankets over the top of tent and pile blankets over extruding feet! Hey presto - you've created your own 'iron lung'! :rotfl: Just remember not to leap out of bed when you need a wee wee, otherwise there might be tent pin bowling ball effect down the stairs! :rotfl:
