She has an appointment with her Dr on Monday for the results of some blood tests (honestly if they say she is deficient in some stupid vitamin or other and that may be the cause I will swing for him as its obviously not).
I am not leaving until she has been referred to social services and he tells me exactly what is going to happen and when.
Hi Lou, unfortunately you have to really put your foot down with Drs etc when it comes down to getting dementia diagnosed. Tell him that you want her to have a mini mental test, this should give them a score out of 30 obviously the lower the score the severity of the dementia. If you get no joy out of the Drs then you can always ring the duty desk for your local social services & tell them you are at your whits end & really need some help as you don`t know what else to do.
Hugs Lou i hope you get some answers & help. Would you mind letting us know how you get on?

Thanks for that Claire
The trouble is she has had over 5 of these mini memory tests, she always seems to do quite well with them to be honest. She has had a brain scan which shows significant shrinkage of the brain and has been referred to a psychiatrist but still no treatment or any offer of help.
Its as though she is on her best behaviour when she is with the Dr. Totally denying that she thinks people are living in her house/locking herself in etc
the best help we have received are a couple of leaflets about how to help her remember simple tasks. But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -
Sorry in advance, rant alert!
The NHS are doing sweet FA to help my MIL and things are at crisis point....
She is now convinced that OH is back living at home with her and she is cooking meals for him when he is not there.
She is telling the neighbours that we are not speaking to her and she has offered us money to take her to the bingo but we wouldnt (thank god her neighbours are understanding) also we are locking her in the house so she cant get out (she hides her keys from the people who she thinks are living with her)
She locked herself in the bathroom and couldnt get out so neighbours had to break the front door open.........
I could go on but surely they cannot just leave someone to have continuous hallucinations and delusions.
She is being tested yet again for a water infection !!!!!! she must have had one for 2 effing years then.
We are at our witts end and something really bad is going to happen, I just know it.
just wanted to say that, if you really want her assessed and treated - then her nearest relative/family can request an assessment under the Mental Health Act!! This would mean she'd be assessed bt 2 psychiatrists and a Social worker who is specially trained in mental health. The GP does not need to refer. Obviously this may potentially lead to an admission for assessment, so us not something to be taken lightly - but it's an option if you feel she's not been properly assessed. Feel free to PM if you want to - I work in a community mental health team so might be ae to give you some advice. Oh and water infections canlead to people developing psychosis - I nursed someone briefly who had just that, but I appreciate this is unlikely if it's been going on for a while & she's been tested already.
Good luck - it must be a very stressful time x20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100
