Meal Plans-Week Commencing 9th October 2006

Options
To help us get more motivated, I thought if it was OK with everyone else to maybe list our meal plans for the next week.

If we can make an inventory of food we have in...maybe we can get a few free meals out of it IYSWIM. It will also help us cut down on wastage of food and wastage of money-as we buy just what we need. It will also save time and maybe we can use the SC more with the cold weather coming in which will also be cheaper on energy efficiency:confused:

I know meal plans enable me to become more organised and make sure we have a decent meal each day and we remember to get the meat/fish/poultry out the freezer the night before:rolleyes:

My next 7 meals from Monday will be:

Roast Chicken, roasties, yorkies, carrots, french beans, parsnips
Lamb Stew & Dumplings
Toad In The Hole, mash, carrots and cabbage
Chicken Muck Muck & Rice (leftover chicken from roast)
Shepards Pie, cabbage and sweetcorn (already made in freezer)
Egg & Chips
HM Fishpie and peas

Basically, I have all the food already in the freezer but just need the fresh veg and fridge items for the week-but will do Lidls for F&V as they are still half price. I always make extra when I can, then either have the next day for lunch or freeze. Made 2 shepards pies last week so will use the other one this week-next week I will make another 2 and so forth. I have so much food in the freezers that I want to use most of that up before buying much else for the freezer- honestly dont think I will need to buy main meal items for a couple of months.

So come on...what you scoffing this week???

Hugs y'all.

Sun - Baked salmon, veg and baked spuds, roast quinces for pud

  • ooooh, im going to watch this with interest!
I try and wait until monday to sort out weekly menus, as i go to sainsburys and netto to see what they have reduced in the meat dept - find these 2 tend to do the biggest reductions! sainsburys reduce a lot of their organic meats ... and netto just half price everything - last week got 2 2kg chickens for £2.50, and 12 lamb chops for just over £4 - all were the day before their use by date. in sainsburys i got an organic chicken 2.5kg for £2, and 2 pork joints for about £3. fed 2 adults and 3 ravenous kids for the week!
just bung it all in the freezer and get it out day before i need it

thanks for doing this - some great ideas!

    :T :T :T

  • These ideas are really great and I will be trying lots of them. I have to go into hospital on Monday for a hysteroscopy and I am totally bricking it about the whole thing and I haven't done any meal planning as I can't let myself think past Monday, but these ideas are great and there are some nice simple things which I should be able to do once I've got Monday over with.... I have to say that Roast Quinces has me intrigued.. What is it?

I never plan meals more than a day or two ahead. I really should try to do this though as I know I buy too much food. I do use it up before best before dates so I suppose it's not too bad, I hardly ever chuck anything away, though I know I could save money doing things this way. I'll be interested to see a vegetarian one, you lot eat a lot of meat. lol

I'm intrigued about the baked lentils thriftlady? I have a bag of red lentils sat in the cupboard awaiting inspiration.

:) Roast quinces are just quinces baked like apples with loads of sugar. I have a glut of them at the moment.

Baked lentils are made with the big continental lentils not the red ones. Red ones cook to a mush but continental one hold their shape. The recipe is here
