Stupid !!!!!!!' vendors solicitors who have been dragging their feet for weeks have now said 'they can't guarantee completion on the 19th August' - we're supposed to be exchanging this Thursday - can they refuse to put a date in the contracts? Anything we can do if the new proposed date isn't to our liking (I may be induced in 3 weeks so any delay is not good!)
A letter is in the post to us explaining why (our sol wouldn't tell us over the phone) but we won't get this until after hours tomorrow which leaves us 30 minutes on Thursday morning before exchange to do something!

I feel your pain. We have been asked to go in and sign the contracts tomorrow ready for exchange on Friday... however, the buyers searches are not back yet...were only requested last week. We are also supposed to be completing on 19th. I thought the date had to be agreed at exchange? Fingers tightly crossed for us both0 -

Yes completion date is agreed at exchange but you can exchange and complete on the same day. It isn't ideal - we ended up doing this as we wanted to stick to the date that we proposed for completion at the start. We had aimed to exchange the week before but the buyers were slow with the documentation.
If it is only the searches they are waiting for then you still have a chance if you all accept that you won't have a week between exchange and completion. The biggest pain is the phone and redirecting mail as these take a week or so to arrange. However most of us have mobiles so its just the post to sort out really. If I had a pound for every pound I'd lost, I'd be confused0 -
Apparantly completion date does not have to be agreed at exchange - our sols still want us to exchange tomorrow even though the other solicitors are not agreeing to the original date. We cannot do any other date due to the fact I may be induced at anytime but they've got us over a bloody barrel
I'm so angry. I didn't want to exchange & complete on the same day as we've been told not to book removal firms until exchange as otherwise we won't get compensated - removal firms are running out of availability already as there's only 10 days to go to our original completion date.

Me too ... I'm hoping it will pick up after the school holidays because I'm feeling pretty despondent at the moment
Me too! 2 weeks ago we found a perfect property - put in a good offer but then a week later a cash buyer swooped in with a higher offer. Matched it, but owner still went with them.
Last week - looked around a house that had been on the market for TEN MONTHS but it was lovely. Looked on rightmove yesterday and it had sold. Phoned the estate agent, put in an offer only 3k under asking and waited. Now found out the original bid was lower than ours but they're sticking with it because a) they know the buyer and b) they are ALSO A BLOODY CASH BUYER.
Grr.. We've got a buyer for our house, and a good mortgage in place. We are in a prime position to put in offers on houses. There's no more decent houses in the areas we're looking in at our budget. They all seem to have sold in the last 3 months and nothing replaced them.
Ho hum, 3 weeks till our 2nd child is due - nothing like a deadline to make things more stressful.
Any ideas of how to find other properties, other than RightMove?0 -
I have never been so stressed in my life. We finally exchanged last week and complete on the 26th (at the sellers request) I am now so worried about everything docs have had to put me on medication. I won't be happy until the keys are in our hands!! this is going to be the longest 3 weeks of my life!0

Wahey, finally exchanged today... complete next friday!0

Picked up the keys today.
Not the end of the stress though, I've now got to deal with the utility companies :eek:0
