Mardatha, what you said before struck a chord here. I have oil central heating and it ran out last February. Haven`t had the money to put any in the tank since. Only got the one open fire for heat. Just lately it`s been so cold, and I`m frankly dreading winter, got down to around minus twenty last year.
But, on good days I remember I never grew up with any central heating, it`s a luxury, not a necessity, and though I have days when I crave a warm house, we manage. :)
Lots of warm woolies and housework and hot food. :)
I can only imagine how hard it must be for older folks.

Yes Elf, I'm up in the border hills. Is bloody baltic here tonight in my kitchen nevermind ootside ! RD, I can still mind one year we ran out of coal and money. I had to round the kids up and take them up on the hill to collect wood. The youngest was so cold and whiney we stuck him inside a black binbag and tied it round his neck :rotfl:
Then we found a neighbour who had a freezer full of (poached) salmon but nothing else, and he swapped me a pail of coal for some ice cream and pavlova for his kids :D Poor but happy days !

Flowertotmum myself, DH and hairdresser were all up in arms about your veg today. Have just stopped laughing about your DH's prank although if it was my DH I think the repenting would have to last for a good few days.:rotfl:

Have been shopping today for bread flour, Allisons 3kg bags were all sold out in Mr M's. I had the last four unripped bags from Mr A's then went to Aldi and stocked up on castor sugar, plain and SR flour. The two big supermarkets had plenty of bags of the much more expensive smaller bags. Also bought two very large bags of pasta and 4 large lidded plastic boxes to store them all in in the garage. I feel like I am finally a proper part of the preparing for winter MSE family.

Hi oh he is gonna pay...well and truly bogged off with the pair of them..my son has been down for tea and washed up ,put pots away and gone again..hubby has made me endless cups of tea...not giving into them yet..few more days of creeping should do it i think...
as for the road kill..he might end up like it if he does it again..
    take care

Almost sounds like my dad! :D He was a renowned poacher and it wasn`t til the seventies that we got a real bathroom and indoor loo put in the crofthouse. But it was ages til we had to stop using the zinc tub in front of the range...dad always had salmon in the bath, keeping the fresh til he could deal with them. :D

:rotfl:My ex did this - only the first time I stayed with him overnight there was no warning and I got up in the morning to find salmon splashing round!!
