I'm sure Santa will be shopping at charity shops this year!!

I keep asking DH what he wants for Christmas but he just wont commit to wanting anything which is a bit annoying as I'd wanted to start buying this month, he'll get nothing if he doesn't get his act together!!

The poem about housework is lovely, sadly I don't have children so I think I've got to get on with my housework :rotfl:

DH is getting the same sausage stew he had last night warmed through for his dinner but I don't know what I'll eat, I go to choir on Wednesdays and struggle a bit with singing if I've eaten before so may wait and have a quick omlette when I get home instead.

I get paid on Friday and it can't come soon enough! I am hoping that October/November will be better money management wise than the last two months.

i live on isle of wight and although our closest is southampton spending £20 to get there for 6 fleeces doesn't make sence. but i'm off to somerset and bristol next week and i think there is an ikea close. was thinking if the fleeces are worth it and we have the time i'd like to get some. but i don't know anyone who has bought any ?

Our Ikea only have a pale blue fleece for 99p the other colours are all £2.79 each, I keep promising myself I will nip to Asda and get some of their 2 for £3 ones.

thankyou for that. blue be fine for the boys but was hoping there was cream or pink.

we also don't have an asda but will go to one when on mainland. what are the 2 for £3 ones likes. which colours do they come in please. as £1.50 each this might be a better option for me than trying to get to ikea. which i not even to sure where it is in bristol, lol.

I have some of the pale blue fleeces from Ikea and they're fine, they're a good size (perfect over your lap when on the sofa!) and really soft plus they wash well. I have rather a lot of fleece blankets, think I'm a bit addicted! I have 2 light blue cheapies from Ikea, 2 brown ones (one a light caramel, the other a chocolate brown) from Dunnes and 2 red/brown/cream striped ones from Primark, I don't think any cost more than £2.50 (2 for £5 offers on the non-ikea) and they're all perfect just to have on the sofa. I've also got a massive, thick, cream fleece blanket I got at a shop in Keighley whose name totally escapes me but the blanket is big enough to cover a double bed and only cost about £10, again it washes well and dries so quickly.

    Hi jcr16,

I haven't tried them myself, but I have a friend who got them from ikea and ended up returning them because she felt the ones in Primark were much better quality. Not quite sure how much they cost but I'll try to find out for you.

Hi fellow frugalers..not been on for a while been to busy to even get online sometimes.

Wont bore you with exOH/blonde floozie saga other than hes out of the garage, my dad and I are in and all the jobs are safe, business loan paid off so house safe, just the divorce to sort out thats in court next Tuesday so by this time next week I may be a single woman again:p:j:beer:...

I am now working at the garage for a while, console assistant :D serving the petrol and stocktaking, its nice to be back in the workforce again. Was lovley to say cheerio to the JSA office.
Dads paying me minimum wage as we have to keep the costs down to secure the mechanics jobs, I would have died of shame if we had to have closed the garage and make 4 folk redundant after 8 years of loyal service so things are looking up.

Have put the house on the market, have to as OH is entitled to a share, hes moving to Shropshire....:D:D:D:D:D

Im still moneysaving in my little flat, have done everything I can to be prepared for winter and the allotments looking good and ready for full production in the coming year.

My future posts will be to do with winter preps etc just posted an update for the kind folk that PMd me about my situation and gave me there support, such a wonderful community on here.

Can anyone tell me what to do with a chicken carcass ie make stock etc..Ive just touched the surface on batch cooking now need to get riight back to basics and learn them....

Ive come out the other end of this horrible saga, skint but employed with a roof over my head, my integrity intact, now I need to practice OStyle with avengence...anyone any ideas on a cheapo menu for a dinner a deux, plucked up courage to ask handsome hunk from the allotment for a meal:rotfl::rotfl: he said yes....and I blushed as he handed me a bunch of nobbly carrotts ooh errr can you tell Im all a flutter lol....made a carrott cake with em.....and hes bringing some of his homemade wine....wont ever be attracted to a flash geezer with a big car ever again, one with a spade and heap of organic manure will do ....:p

Is cold here today, was 7 degrees when I crawled half asleep into thegarage this morning at 6am and the sky was lovley and red, and the hedges had a white frosty dusting on them, though the days got better as it has passed, quite warm now, am going to walk to work from now on as I love the peace and quiet of the morning when everything is just starting...

so from one lucky but skint frugaller to you all have a nice afternoon, Im off to have freezer sort out and list making session

Annie56 - I don't even know you but I am so excited for you! Especially the cute one at the allotment! I'm sure people will tell you exactly how to make chicken stock, but I just wanted to say that you can freeze the chicken bones and wait till you have 2 chickens worth of bones before making the stock / having the time to make the stock. River Cottage just had a show on Channel 4 on veg, and they made a beautiful roasted carrot dish with a bit of orange juice. Check it out on 4OD or they may have the recipe on the riv. cot. website??

Sammy-Kaye - you are so beautiful not only on the outside but your inner beauty is shining through too in that pic! What was Owen thinking.....

Also just wanted to say I am really pleased to see Ceridwen on again. :T

I am full of cold, feeling sorry for myself. OH is at work and man would I kill for a nice hot cuppa tea right about now :o Oh well, tomorrow's another day and all that jazz.....

Will post later: chicken carcass - break it up a bit, put it in a largish pan, cover with water. You can add an onion and or a carrot or even the peeling of an onion and or carrot.

Boil up then simmer for half an hour to an hour until the remaining meat comes away easily. Cool until you can handle it. Scoop out the biggest bits and put them on a largish plate. Strain the stock through a sieve into a bowl. Now start on the remnants in the sieve, pulling apart the carcase and saving the meat. You can put this in the stock if you want. Then do the same for the big bits.

    Nice as soup:

    1. With the the veggies chopped up
    2. With rice and lemon
    3. With beans and a bit of sausage, chorizo or salami
    4. pearl barley and new veggies
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
