Hide it away. Get it to the bank as a matter of urgency and pay it in.
Do not chuck your money away. Put you and the kiddies first love.
I speak from a very bad experience.:(
Well - I do think Owen could be a little more "gracious" to you Sammy- considering that you are planning on paying off some of HIS debt too (not that you doing that surprises me at all from what we know of you.....).
A little bit from him to you of "I'm so pleased for you Sammy - and its very kind of you to pay of some of MY debts too - so thank you" would not go amiss....0 -
Well it's a vile night down here, absolutely pouring with rain and feels really chilly too. We've got a rolled pork belly joint in the oven, with some roast potatoes and my first ever attempt at making sage and onion stuffing...hope it's nice as DH normally insists on buying Paxo...!
Got quite a bit of work done today, whilst DH pottered around most of the day tidying up, sorting stuff out (accumulated piles of "stuff"!) and trimmed some of our bushes that were starting to overhang the pavement. He realised that some chavs had dumped a knackered mountain bike over our fence! Not sure when they did it, as that part of the garden can't be seen from the house, and we don't walk past that bit very often either. We don't live in a particularly chavvy area so we were astonished that someone would do that - let alone heave it over the fence as opposed to just dumping it!
My dad popped in for a cuppa this afternoon and asked what I'd like for xmas. There's quite a few bits that I'd be grateful for, such as a handheld rechargeable hoover, but DH said that's boring and I should ask for things that are for *me* rather than for the house. Said we could just buy ourselves the hoover - but I don't want to spend the money!
Right ho, tea's nearly ready, nom nom nom

Hi everyone,
Have just had a rough couple of weeks with my daughter, followed by a water infection, both of which kinda knocked the stuffing outta me, but things have plateaued out a bit for now, and the infection seems to have gone after a course of anti b's
Just wanted to say thanks to those of you who were so supportive when I hit my big low a couple of weeks back. I didn't feel up to posting my thanks at the time, but your support neither went unnoticed or unappreciated
Really chuffed for you and your bit of good fortune Sammy :j how wonderful for youRotten night. Dad was blue-lighted into hospital again tonight and i've just got back from A&E. He is stable on drips and stuff - looks like its an infection rather than another stroke but he is very confused
Fell off the no-smoking wagon
Aw Frugal :grouphug: I do feel for you. I hope your Dad has made some positive progress over the weekend hun, I really do
Katholicos How is your Dad hun?
Greentea I hope you're ok - I've been thinking of you :grouphug:
Funny how menu planning works for some and not others. I've found it to be such an enormous help on how I manage my money.
I spent almost all of last Sunday off and on menu planning for the next 6 weeks.
I could rotate each months menu, but I'm constantly finding new recipes that I want to try, so I have to start afresh each month. I have to say, that I find it extremely time consuming to do - trying to make sure that I don't repeat the same meat, veg, pasta, rice or potatoes, two days in a row, as well as not repeating any meal for 4, 5 & 6 weeks - but once I've done it, I don't have to think about it again for another 5-6weeks!
I find it stops me having the same meals all the time. Or impulse buying food because I've forgotten to get such and such out of the freezer, or couldn't decide what I wanted for tea until the last minute.
The current menu plan doesn't repeat any meal, so I've got 42 days worth of different meals. It means I'm more organised, there's never any food wastage - a BIG thing for me, as I did often find myself throwing away something that I hadn't got around to using the "rest" of - and I find that not only are we eating a lot better than we used to but we're enjoying the variation of meals, as I, in particular, had got so bored of eating the same things all the time, just because I didn't have the time or the energy to try something new.
I do my best to keep a running stock of all the meat I use, so that I'm now in a situation where I seldom have to buy any meat at full price. I also do the same for Cheese, Coffee & Tea. I can't remember the last time I paid full price for any of those.
I hold my hands up, and admit, that I've only had the time (and energy) to search for and cook new meals and shop around for foods on offer since being made redundant, so I do appreciate that I possibly have more time available to me than someAug11 £193.29/£240

Sammy - I haven't commented on your situation with the money and Owen because I felt it wasn't my place but its been sitting really uncomfortably with me... Having read your post tonight I really would urge you to hang on to that money yourself hun. I have been in your shoes and am just coming out the other end of losing everything to the ex and his financially incompetent ways. You have such a kind heart that I know you want to help him... but I really would keep it for you and the kids. Hope I am not talking out of turn. Best of luck whatever you decide and I think I will light a candle tonight and ask for you to have your house

re mindapples, I didn't realise there WAS a quiz charis - just thought it was the five things a day to help stay mentally healthy.[/QUOTE]
Sorry, it's actually listed as a test, together with what they call a 'brain dump' where they want to know if you have any other helpful information about how you keep cheerful. They then invite you to leave your gender, age, occupation, email address and estimate the level of your own mental health. Then you send it all into the ether - for what? Why are they gathering all this stuff if not to share it with others who have similarly signed up to the site? They even ask for a voluntary contribution. I though maybe I just hadn't found the right place to click.
Confused of Middle Earth0 -
A little unclear on what you mean.
i did the online stress test I spotted there - result good:D
Then thought "Think she probably means the What Are Your Mindapples" thing - so started that and thought - I dont think I'll bother with that. Dont tend to like things that want my email address from me and dont want to go joining any sorta whatever-it-is they are running.
is that the one you meant Charis? or is there summat else?
The 'test' I did was the one where you give your five a day and they ask for your details. I didn't get a result as such but maybe that's because I wasn't stressed :rotfl: I'm just curious why they aren't allowing access even to a graph of things that other people do to keep the blues away. It could be a lifesaver for some people.0 -
Thanks to everyone for their kind wishes about my Dad. He is still in hospital - they don't think its another stroke but probably an infection. Its a bit disconcerting that when he is asked what year it is he says 1721
He has improved a bit today so hopefully he will continue to get better and come home again soon - thanks again all xxxxx0
