Okays.....and whoever is doing the positive thinking/lighting candles/whatever....on Sammy's behalf.....howzabout a final "burst" of positive energy/good wishes/whatever to do the giving her enough money to buy a "little house on the prairie" (well - in those Welsh valleys anyway:rotfl::rotfl:) for her and her little family?
Yep...actually I'm serious...I think that would round it off nicely if Sammy could march into an estate agents and ask for details of a little 2/3 bedroomer for her and her family and know she had the money to pay upfront for it:D....
Get those positive vibes going now folks....0 -

congratulations!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
I've just been a naughty spent £7.14 on veg seeds and 3 hyaciths:o.
Just had an argument with OH, well he shouted at me at the top of his lungs becaue apparently i huffed at him. My asthma's playing up so i've been "huffing and puffing" all day. So i ended up leaving all my dinner as i was that upset and placing an order with T & M.
Ordered a mixed bag of carrot seeds which may turn purple orange and yellow, so the kids will love picking them.Decided this was a treat for and the kids after that get spent a fortune on climbing wall stuff without me knowing:mad:.
So now i have to find more money from god knows where, i'm so angry at him. Think i may have to find chocolate and scoff it:o0 -

Sorry you are having a tough day and also about your asthma kicking off. Mine has been playing up today also. As you already know, i'm sure....stress only exacerbates asthma so your OH isn't really helping by shouting at you. Go find that chocolate, and enjoy every biteGrocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Been reading the MSE post about the benefit changes: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/family/2010/11/benefits-shake-up-warning-for-non-wroking-claimants?utm_source=forum&utm_medium=sidebar&utm_campaign=box
I seriously hope that DH's job either survives all the cuts or that he finds another one. Once we can afford for me not to be working, I want out of the jobcentre before those changes come in. No right of appeal? Don't like the sound of that at all! My workmates are lovely, it's an interesting and challenging job where I can feel I'm really making a difference and helping people but... if they want to make me into the bad guy giving the news to some poor sod who had a lot on their plate & forgot to apply for something, that they now don't get any money for months/years. Well, that's not for me.0 -

In the eighties the jobcentre had all the chairs nailed to the floor and security barriers for the staff.
If the payments were delayed or not forthcoming many a claimant would be more than a little frustrated and start chucking chairs through the wiindow!
My freind worked there then and she remembers a woman leaving her three kids in the jobcentre, a baby actually on the counter and saying 'well you effing feed them then!'. Scary times!0 -
Sammy - congrats, I dont know anyone who has won anything like that before xx
Kezlou - have 2 choc bars you deserve it xxMum, wife and dinnerlady!0 -

Whew! Hadnt realised there is no right of appeal. I do feel there should always be a right of appeal on anything - if only because human error so often crops up.
It IS a very difficult situation. We all of us think "Well things have got to be sorted and someone has to pay - but let it not be us personally" about the situation we are in. In all honesty today - I was thinking "We really do need more effort to get the workshy to take jobs whether they want to or no and its about time people stopped thinking they are too 'good' for unskilled jobs". The next minute I had to admit to myself that someone could turn round and throw straight back at me personally that "How come you wouldnt take an unskilled job then - as you think people should be prepared to?".
In all honesty - I have no answer as to how to "square that circle". There IS a limited range of unskilled jobs I would do personally - but then I have to admit I don't have the health/energy level to do them anymore anyway.
I simply don't know what the answer is actually as to how to ensure that British people take the jobs that are going rather than being on benefit on the one hand - so that we don't import extra people from other countries (hopefully only temporarily...) to do the jobs we are refusing to do ourselves...
I really don't know. My personal suspicion is that the generations after my own have got it rather more firmly in their heads than Real Life allows for that "Because I'm worth it (even if I'm not personally.....) means that "I MUST have a job that I enjoy/is worthwhile/etc because I'm worth it....".
I really really DO sympathise with the sentiments behind this - as I've never yet had the chance to do a job/career I actually like/feel is worthwhile and I am definitely envious of those people that DO have that. I dont think its right to be "mean-minded" about it - so I'm pleased for those that DO have a job/career that they actually like. I just think that it would be nice if that was something that we could all have - but I appreciate that it really IS the very few that are lucky enough to get that. Most of us hold down a job because we know we have to - and that is where I wonder if the pendulum swung too far and many people now arent prepared to do a job they don't want even if it means being on benefit voluntarily.
I don't honestly know what the answer is - to make people accept they have a responsibility to support themselves if they have the chance to on the one hand and I would hope that Society might be able to provide a higher proportion of jobs people actually WANT to do on the other hand....0 -

My Oh worked in the Job Centre, he has been pulled over the desk by his tie in the past by someone who had not had his giro...the abuse that job centre staff used to have to put up with was truely dreadful. I was so glad when he retired. Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0
