I thought my ratty virgo was the only man who was a maniac around fire
I find the stove a lot easier to look after than the fire was - we never let ours go out at any time. Because you can turn it right down to 0 and it doesnt draw at all, only needs filled once every 24 hours. And with keeping it on all the time the stone walls stay hot.

What time does Sainsbugs sell off the chickens usually ?
We were in there (Scu nthorpe) just after 12 - I believe that they only keep them on the hot shelf thing for a couple of hours before reducing them as we have been in at 6pm and the cooked spare ribs have been marked half price.:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

I keep my OH away from the stove for the opposite reason, he always manages to put the blinking thing out:mad:, i can look after for weeks keep it going, shut it down at night etc. I was really tired on Thursday eve had had a long day at work and asked hubby to sort stove out before coming to bed as i was having an early night, got up yesterday morning, thought the house was cold and came downstairs to find he had not shut the stove down and vents had been left open all night:mad:, so 6am yesterday i was taking up ashes and laying the fire so the house would be warm for kiddies getting up. But i have to say i'm really thankful for having a stove, we had a gas fire when we moved into our house and the bills were awful in winter, at least now i'm not worried about heating costs and my children are always warm and snuggly.0

Have just come back from the library with an armful of books - they have just got a new selection of thrift/green living books in and I hope I'm going to pick up some good OS hints and tips - I'm going to start with "Teach Yourself - Thrifty Living" so hope to be posting some OS ideas that I've gleaned from it in the next couple of days.
We're all looking forwarding to sharing your newly found knowledge. There was some mention on this thread or one of the earlier ones some while ago where we shared our favourite "Austerity type" books . Some of them are a fascinating read.0 -

Thats what it has been like with me for the past two years, third year in and i'm sick so i'm kicking off. Not what i wanted to do at all, i'm actually well known for working with teachers. Such a shame that it comes down to the extremes. Hope all goes well for your friends son.
margaret lovely post x
Just wish my mother / grandmother had been the same way, instead of encouraging us to spend and get loans.
jediteacher - hope i didn't offend you, in my case its not the teachers, they lovely, the two snips has now are fantastic. Its just the deptuty head who says teachers can't access resources. Its a far worse situtaion for the teachers and i personally know snips' teachers both buy thngs from they own money in order to provide the children with suitable tools / equipment.
Also i know the educational psychologist does not recieve all the information needed from the deputy head. I used to work with anxious pupils and children who had behavioural problems who had been suspended/expelled from school. The amount of pressure and abouse i recieved and was under was unreal. So for me its more of case of making the deputy head do her job which allows the stress to be relieved from teachers and other professionals.
oo good luck monkeyboy!!!
well been a kind of productive day, i'm full of flu, just in time for the flu jab, typical.
