Relief tbh as have been at college last couple of nights with DD - trying to pick the which one, any advice on choosing would be great :)

Park yourself outside the college at letting out time, the behaviour of the students on leaving the college is a good 'tell'

Hadn't noticed not noticing the fireworks until you mentioned it Ceridwen but now that you mention it, none round our way either (if that's not complete gibberish). We were going to take our DD to her first display in the village but she was just too tired tonight, been up early the last 2 days for the plumbers to fit a new boiler and it's been too noisy for her to have a sleep to make up for that so she just went zonk tonight. On the upside we now have heating:jafter 2 weeks without and boy is it nice to be warm again - was fed up of being cold, at least we had an immersion heater so had hot water.

I like the idea of finding the positives - that's what I always try to do but sometimes they are hiding behind the sofa at the moment and making it harder to find them. I kept telling myself over the boiler that at least it didn't go on Christmas Eve or in the middle of a cold snap and now we have a lovely shiny new modern economical one.

    Have a good evening all.
  • Being old and grumpy - I am pleased that their are fewer fireworks this year as I hate the flippin' things. I have t'dog cowering behind the sofa, old cat who's jumpy, the feral kittens - who haven't come for their tea tonight probably because next-doors are letting fireworks off  Poor old pony and the horse are nervy and aren't eating with all the bangs and crackles even though they are stabled a couple of miles out of town - the sound certainly travels :(

I think it goes back to being about 7 or 8 and being at the village organised bonfire - a girl stood in front of me got hit by a rocket that came down before it was burnt out and it fell into her bri-nylon coat hood, she got badly burnt as the coat just melted & her hair caught fire. A friend grandaughter was also burned when her nylon padded coat caught fire from being accidently touched with a sparkler. I find the whole eavening nerve wracking personally :(

  • Evening all!

Just a small rant, and I may get shot down for this, but....

Who on earth needs a new conservatory or sofa in order to make their Christmas special?????!!!!

I'm fairly certain that unless you're sitting on the floor or an orange box, you can probably manage with the old sofa until such a time as you actually have the bl**dy money to pay for it! And it won't make your Christmas any more special, worrying about how you're going to pay for it all in the New Year.

    And breathe....

Apart from my rant, everything's still much the same, but OH may be off earning some decent money in a little while. I won't find out about my job until Tuesday/Wednesday next week, but as I was leaving for one job interview, another hospital called me to invite me to interview next Friday!:j

Why would you be? (ie "shot down" for your comments re new sofa or conservatory).

i think we would all agree with you about that here on this thread:D

Good luck on the job front.
  • Ceridwen,

I know most will agree, but you can never be too sure that you're not offending someone!
