I'm sitting here really annoyed. I listened to the Chancellor's speech, i'm worried, I'm scared but I hoping to goodness it works. Many many many people are going to be forced into financial breakdown, ours was last year and it's horrible. We lost our home for goodness sakes.. those people in that 'room' are grinning, smirking, point scoring, laughing, nit picking, making cheap quips. Excuse me - our lives are being discussed here, take your games outside!

    Am I being pathetic?

Hi , no your not hun..i feel the same..they are little boys playing with peoples lives...

The other thing with job cuts I think is the half a million job losses is civil servants in government departments as well as police/armed forces/those paid by the government directly but all the councils are also going to be having budgets cut and will have to drop staff so in total these cuts will mean more than half a million job losses. I wish for our local authority and I know the plan is to cut a reasonably large percentage of staff over the next 4 years (because this is a 4 year plan, the job losses wont all be in bulk tomorrow) and I fear mine will come up for the cut at some point. Ick.

I had an interview for another job today (also local authority though) and it didn't go very well so I'm not hopeful.

Feeling pretty grim about the whole thing really, financially unless mine or my husband's job goes we should be OK as we don't claim any sort of benefits and don't have children (obviously all our expenditure will rise with the VAT and any other tax increases) but that doesn't stop me feeling bad for the country as a whole. I honestly believe there was a better way to do this and making the banks at least pay for part of it would be a start.

Okey dokey, my concerns regarding ESA led me to do a google search about the time-limited-ESA payments and i came across this thread....it seems the 12 month ESA time limit would largely affect ESA claiments who are involved with the Work Related Activity Group and whos ESA payments are contibution based. I daren't think that i won't be directly affected via the implementation of this rule though. Will wait to learn more about what it means for people like me who claim ESA because we are unfit for work and are confirmed to be so by doctors and consultants.

There is a bank levy which will raise £2.6bn a year apparently.

So ESA is to be subject to a 12 month claim limitation. What happens at the stroke of midnight on the last day of the twelvth month, do those of us who are unable to work due to poor health, suddenly become well enough to work? What a load of carp. I wonder how many suicides there will be when the conservative spending review gets into its full swing?
I don't understand this ESA thing. My OH is on incapacity benefit and has been for almost 15 years now, when he first became unable to work he was on Invalidity Benefit then it changed to Incapacity. He hasn't had to send in sicknotes or anything for years and he's only ever had one medical about 7 years ago (and that may have been for DLA, I forget). How will these changes affect him?

Well i'm not sure what to think, i'm just glad child benefit hasn't been scrapped for over 16's. I know a lot of parents around the school are happy about that.

But i'm going to wait and see before i make comments, i want to see it on paper first. One thing i do know is, as i was listening to the review it appear most of the help for over 25's is going to be scrapped. Instead its going straight to those aged between 16-19 yrs. Not good for people who trying to get a job or are about to be made redundant.

My gawd its cold, just picked snips up and his little nose was bright red. Saying that most of the kids didn't have thick coats so the teachers were wrapping them up. Poor kids. Don't have to back out for a while, i don't think, coddy (ds1) comes home by himself so thats all good.

Right going to sort kids room out, i.e put clothes away, throw small clothes out, and see what else i can sell on flea bay.
Also need to find my other slipper, darn cat carried it off, now its nowhere to be seen .
  • Afternoon all, not had chance to sit and type a reply before now, think i kind of started something with the mention of weddings lol, sorry for making everyone go off topic :o

Completely agree with what's been said about many weddings being far too OTT and costing the earth, doesn't make it a better marriage does it? And as for people still paying for a wedding years later, maybe even after splitting up  Our wedding was small, 21 people inc us and the kids and not really MSE in a lot of ways as we spent a lot to get the location we really wanted but other things like my dress, bridesmaids dresses/shoes, cake, flowers etc were done quite cheaply. Cost came in around £4600, my parents very generously gave us 3k towards it and we saved the rest, not a penny owing after the big day :D and it was perfect, i can hand on heart say that if i'd had millions of £'s i wouldn't have changed a thing.

Haven't actually looked at the spending review stuff on the news, tbh i don't understand a lot of it :o so not sure what it means for us as a family. I have been noticing the rising food costs which have had me worried, plus i worry about the heating bills over the winter, i have Fibromyalgia and the cold really affects me.

Anyway, i had an asda delivery yesterday and have stocked up on flours, pasta, tins and uht milk so my cupboards are now chocka which makes me feel safe lol. If it snows it can get quite bad here for going out, espcially when it turns to ice so if it gets like that when DH is away then i need to have stuff in stock because i'm scared of slipping and falling with being pregnant.

Must go now, kids are whinging for an after school snack, i'm thinking hot chocolate and pancakes cos its been so cold today, must dig out my thermal vests (sexy!) lol

    Hope everyone is ok

Theres a link on the BBCNews homepage to the Comprehensive Spending Review pdf - no good at giving complicated linkies - so havent brought it over here. Perhaps someone else more computer-literate than me could give a link to that pdf??
