Well I am just obsessing over getting the food budget down - is a breadmaker a good idea do you think? Might see if I can get one from freecycle. Trouble is my kitchen is so tiny I have to really think about getting any gadget as I have very little storage space. But if it means I can make pizza bases and rolls easily perhaps I should do it.
Just staring glumly at my living room wall now, with all the plaster breaking off and damp patches. Won't have the money to ever get that fixed now.Feel depressed.
I know compared to the majority of the world we are still rich and very very lucky though. But still feel deflated.
Love my breadmaker. :jI have a kenwood 450.....it is amazing. Makes pizza dough. jam, all different breads, doughs and cakes.....amazing.
I am not that good at hand made, but will give it another try this week. Even if I was brill at HM still wouldn't part with my BM.
Sorry you feel so low.:( You are doing the right thing getting your teeth into something worthwhile (your budget). always makes me feel better.:)In the middle of difficulty lies oppurtunity0 -
Phew, CB is NOT going to be axed for over 16s in full-time education. That's a weight off my mind.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.

Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -
Sorry to hear the news but your staff are over-reacting. Your university will continue to be funded for students who are already there and who start in 2011 on the same basis as now.
On the other hand, I think that media is not the subject with the best job outcomes and maybe it would be better to think about a swap sooner rather than later (IMO only).
I've already swapped from a course I hated so I'm hardly going to do that... It might not be the easiest route in the universe, but as someone who is a depression sufferer, I am acutely aware that happiness in your chosen field is incredibly important... So, I think I'll be sticking with what I love.On the up

OK, if you know where you are going, rather than doing what is fashionable, and are realistic go for it. I wish you every success. If you have not got work at the mo, can you blog? Or offer articles to mags and see what happens? You never know.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I suppose I shouldn't complain as we are not by any means struggling for money at the moment but I am the worst possible age for the pensions change - any one younger than me would not have been getting their pension until 65 and anyone older than me will still get it when they expected to or at most 1 year later. But I will have to wait until I am 66 when I was previously due to get it at 64. That's two years worth of pension that will instead have to come out of savings since we had made our retirement plans based on the assumption that various bits would kick in at certain agesIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I know what you mean... It's undeniably a dept that has more than it's share of students doing it because it's a laugh or similar. For me, it's a passion and where I want to forge my career - hopefully.
I do blog, and make a small income from it - sadly not to the extent I'd like but working on that! Hopefully my 'new media' module which incorporates the building of websites and blogs will help me develop my online ventures furtherThanks

Okays....just poodled off to get the link if anyone fancies the idea of creating a blog/another blog:
https://www.blogger.com/start
There ya' go.
Thanks for this Ceridwen, do you have a blog? It looks interesting, am i the only one who doesn't really understand what they are all about? I will try and get to grips with this.0 -

I have a breadmaker, it's great for making rolls & pizza bases, using the dough programme. Not quite so keen on the bread - it tastes great, but I don't like the shape or the hole in the bottom!
but freshly baked rolls.....:D
And yes, despite all the cuts - we are still rich, aren't we. At least our choices are whether to buy or make bread, rather than shall we have anything to eat at all.0 -
There is a bank levy which will raise £2.6bn a year apparently.
True but I think the banks should be paying more considering how much of the crisis is on their heads, At least enough more that VAT doesn't have to go up to 20% and other areas don't need such drastic cuts.
I'm also horrified at practically withdrawing all funding to social housing/affordable housing, they're as good as anyway.
It just all makes me angry, I know there needs to be changes but moving everything over to the private sector is not being done to help the country, all these private businesses belong to the Tories and their mates and they don't give a monkeys about the "common people" at all.
On the more MSE side of thingsI'm going to see my mum tonight and taking her some extra veggies from our veg box in the hope of swapping for some of her extra tins of beans. I'm also going to see if there's anything I can do to help her get through another winter with no central heating and only partial double glazing, I do worry about her but she can't afford to have it installed and isn't of an age where there would be any government/local authority help (not that there's any or much funding left in that pot anyway now!) I think I'll suggest she pins some fleece blankets to her curtains and offer her some of the spare ones we have so she doesn't have to spend as she still hasn't found a job since being made redundant.

I think the bit we heard today was the tip of the iceberg...there's a whole lot more underneath that will loom up and sink us later on. The "universal benefit"...?... and the job losses ... what will happen to all the half million people who lose their jobs and then cannot afford the mortgage ? Where the hell will they end up ?0
