The Universe has preemptied this time - I was about to ask about this store cupboard stuff. As some of you might remember I completely missed it the first time around - was too busy telling you how I can't do this, and I refuse to do that. How things change...I want it now! And I am a powerful and organsed magnet for food deals and ideas.
Now some cleaning - the house is covered in dust again; makes me wonder whether this will ever end.

Me too, This Universe stuff is powerful stuff, even manages to show me where I'm heading even before I realise it.
I have been converted to the usefulness of the slow cooker, been bulking out with oats and lentils for years, but now with sky is the limit.
Seriously :T0 -

So just to show how green I really am, can I ask what kind of things you would get from here to have a reasonable basic store cupboard?
It always depends what he's got in because it changes all the time.
This last order has got
Dough balls mix
Faccacia mix
Almond extract
Honey (3kg size)
Rice Krispies
Evap milk
Squash
Tomato juice
Lime cordial (for vodka mmmm)
Flour tortillas (loads and for cheaper than I can make them)
Semi dried tomatoes
Broad Beans
Pimentos
Chcken stock cubes
Bulghar wheat
Cous cous
Risotto Rice
Instant Mash (for gnocchi)
Sweeties for Halloween
Mayonaise
Hot Dogs (for Halloween party)
Freezer bags
Angel Delighty stuff
Baked beans
Toothpaste and mouthwash
But before I did an order with ClootiesMum and i got
Dried chick peas, haricot beans, pinto beans, lentils and butter beans
Couscous mix
Taboulleh mix
Miso soup
Cereals
Olive Oil
Noodles
You can probably gather that we eat mostly veggie food, lots of Indian and Italian stuff so storecupboard has been my saving grace.
Other stuff in my store
Flour - all kinds
Yeast
Sugar
Salt
Tinned Tomatoes
Tinned Tuna
Tom Yum soup bases
Noodles of all kinds
Porridge oats
Lentils and pulses
Rice's of all kinds
I think we could probably make the cupboard last through to Easter :rotfl::rotfl:

Mike come over - otherwise web-angel (who is an associate) feels lonely and outnumbered. Also, I am suspicious of any single gender enterprise - I am from the Balkans after all (the only place where if an elderly politician has an affair we think 'good for him', the old boy still has it'; we think the same about 'old girls').
BTW, my understanding was that we are just gaining another virtual place and we will still discuss the Ladies bras, shopping, MSE ways an tips and the like here. I am correct or have I got this one wrong?

I know - slow cookers are ace! You can also buy them in ALDI. And if you cook more in them you can freeze (including in little boxes that are promtly taken to work for lunch). I have been saving myself a fortune.
My record was when I cooked a meal know in our house as Dragon's mistake (the Dragon being me and the mistake mine) but it is potato and pork stew. I had it prepared in the slow cooker and fed us on 15 pence each or something (several times). Was never repeated.
I am a magnet....

I've thought a while about making this post.... so, as they say, nothing ventured nothing gained.... here goes....
I'll try to keep the back story as brief as possible....
18 months ago my ds, then 17, was (finally, after many years of problems) diagnosed with Aspbergers Syndrome and resultant mental health problems. Because of his missed diagnosis, he struggled through mainstream education with no support. In spite of this, he gained 10 GCSE's (6Bs, 4Cs) after attending only about 25% of the two years prior to his exams.
He attempted sixth form but again received no academic support, his mental health deteriorated rapidly, he was diagnosed with AS, he dropped out of sixth form and went onto Incapacity Benefit & Disability Living Allowance. (He receives 2 hours a week support for his Aspbergers - with the cuts, how long he will continue to receive this is anyone's guess).
During the year he attempted sixth form, I went from working full-time to part-time to temporary contract to Carer's Allowance. I have gone from a working environment of hundreds to being isolated at home with ds for company.
The last 18 months have been a real eye-opener - a baptism of fire in the complete lack of support services for adults with Autism and mental health problems in this country. I have come to accept that it is highly unlikely that I will go back to work and it is equally highly unlikely that ds will ever go into paid employment. (That is not giving up by the way, it is just looking at the facts before me, without emotion).
Anyhoo, it is what it is and it is time to move forward for both ds and myself..... and this is where I'd like the help of the matrix....
I have come to the conclusion that I am going to have to work from home and that I am going to have to employ ds - just like that :eek::eek:. It is at this point that my brain starts to melt-down - what the h*ll am I going to do???
And breathe....
So...
The first thing is to get the house into a fit state where it can support a home business. (With working full-time, the house has definitely lacked tlc over the past 12+ years, it is VERY cluttered and BADLY needs decorating)
The next thing is to find a business idea that makes my heart sing. However, if I am going to employ ds, the only thing that I can see working is an internet-based business with minimal face-to-face contact and minimal people interaction. Lord, I can feel the panic rising here, what on earth am I going to do???
Another deep breathe....
So....
I need a product
I need a large internet presence as that is all I will have - so stuff like a web-site; blog; facebook; twitter , I'm going to have to get all techie - arrgghhhhh
I need something that will engage ds (18) whose autistic [STRIKE]obsessions[/STRIKE] special interests inlude Sonic the Hedgehog; Yug-i-oh; Final Fantasy; Dr Who; Star Wars; Beyblades and so on.... All copyrighted stuff.
I need something to engage me - I like crafty stuff and over the years have dabbled in sewing, knitting, jewellery making; card making and scrap-booking but will this keep me interested (I get bored very quickly)
My mind jumps and skitters all over the place, how do I marry all this together ....
What I need is an anchored place to start from and this is where I hope you guys are going to help. Given all the above, can you help me brainstorm ideas to find a way forward???

Your son is very likely to be highly skilled with computers - how much can he programme? If not could you get him to learn (from books; through other people). One thing that immediately hit me is - he likes games; the kind of games kids in their teens like. Apparently designing games and getting them on FB is a really big business.
Interestingly enough, many young people prefer technological games without much humanity - and lets face it I find human interactions highly confusing as well; much rather prefer my gadget (not to an extreem though).
Any sparkles going?
