Yes like this (Oh that's a different design - looks neater than the one I got)
I'm not sure if it works because it does make a difference or because I think it will IYSWIM.

That sounds like just what I need. I hate waking up in the dark in winter. It's on the shopping list now :)

    Anyone up for a challenge?

I've just gone through my store cupboard :) and written down what I have here, gonna do fridge and freezer next.

Would anyone like to help me meal plan? I think I've got enough to feed us all week without having to buy much :)

Sorry but I don't meal plan really :o I tend to buy what's cheapest and on offer, or needs using in the fridge etc.. I do regular clearouts of fridge/freezer/cupboards though.

Maybe posting on old style will get the best results, the meal planning experts are mainly there :)

Clairewop is there anything near it's sellby/useby? That's a good way to prioritise using it up, so go through fridge and store cupboards for those first. I normally have a shelf in the kitchen to put out the tins/packets that need using up first, so it reminds me to use them.

claire, I'll help you with a meal plan. PM me your list and I'll see what I can come up with. I am very much into making tasty meals that don't take up too much of my time and energy to make.

Claire - post up a list of what you have as "main ingredients" so meat, veggies, fish, bread etc. Also add a note of what things your family particularly do or don't like.....we can all brainstorm from there and hopefully plan you some MSE budget friendly meals for the next few weeks!

Re KforK - I am unsure whether anyone proceeded further on one person who was mentioned previously, but in case they hadn't, I have taken a step....

Richard Branson was the person who was mentioned.
    Virgin Atlantic fly to SA,
I have emailed "Virginunite" - their charitable arm, as follows:

    Good afternoon

I am sure you get more requests than you can handle for assistance and funding, however, I am hoping that you could give this one just a few moments of your time to look at, as a) It is a quite amazing idea and the way it has grown already is astonishing, and b) It requires practical input, rather than a financial investment as such. Please do read on....

I am part of an online network who are currently working to create 10,000 smiles on the faces of 10,000 South African kids this Christmas. We are collecting unwanted football shirts and kits - as I am sure you are aware South Africa is a football crazy country, it is also, sadly, a country which has a high number of orphaned children partly as a result of the toll that HIV & Aids is taking. This project commenced with one of our members making us aware of the Katha Day Centre, a registered Charity In SA (charity number 031-394 NPO). These youngsters have nothing, they have lost their Mums and Dads, but they love football and would hugely appreciate these kits if we can get them together. The same lady who started the ball rolling with this is based in South Africa and will co-ordinate the distribution of kit at that end. To give you a little background, the network consists of 111 of us, almost all female, who have met online on the MoneySavingExpert forum. Very few of us have even met in real life, yet over the past couple of months we have inspired members of the Networkto set up in business, come off benefits, and generally aim for a more positive life.

The kits are rolling in now - we've been amazed at the response from schools, clubs and even the football clubs themselves so far - this really seems to have captured the imagination of so many folk! We've self-managed a national collection network and will be able to get the kits to a central point for onward movement to South Africa, however, at the moment this is where we are stumped.

To summarise - 10,000 shirts to South Africa for Christmas means 10,000 smiles on faces that don't always have a lot to smile about. The problem we now have is physically getting these shirts to Johannesburg, where they will be distributed from. Knowing that Virgin Atlantic fly to J'burg, we were wondering if there was anything at all you could offer to help us with this. We have obtained air freight quotes already but know we cannot afford to send the kits this way without help, and sea freight will simply take too long - we want to give these kids a smile at Christmas, not next March!

I hope this who project has grabbed your attention as much as it has already grabbed ours - we really want to make this happen, and anything that you could do to assist would be fabulous!

Thank you for your time in reading my message.

We may hear something from them, we may not, but either way I thought it was worth a shot. I have sent it to both the UK and SA email addresses that were given.

MG - separate forum - great idea. I too was starting to wonder how soon it would be that the thread got closed and a lot of us got given warnings!
