  • Thanks for your input Donnie, will have a look at those two when I have a hand spare from bouncing/feeding the baby and entertaining my 3 year old lol!

    or maybe this one?

Anyone who knows what they are looking at...could you let me know what you think of these at what sort of price I should be looking at as a max to pay for them?

Our budget is now £120 max really sadly so any others found would be great.

The one Donnie mentions in post #9 has gone down to £119 at argos clearance on ebay, when it is in stock. They sell out quickly, but seem to be releasing them in lots of about 30. I bught one at the end of last week, they have attempted delivery today but I wasn't in unfortunately.
  • buy it all, thanks for that i hadden't realised they got things back in lol!

I would pay up to £100 for the ACER(It's already over that so forget it), if it was in excellent condition and I trusted the person from whom I was purchasing.

The problem is of course that you are buying a machine with no warranty. The machine is worth nothing if it breaks after a couple of weeks even though they may look good on the surface.
So any price you pay should reflect that fact.

It may be better to wait if you want a 12 month warranty.

Cheapest Netbook with a 12 month warranty at the moment is £135.95. But the specs are a little old fashioned.

    Intel® Atom™ processor N270,
    Genuine Windows® XP Home,
    10.2" widescreen display,
    80GB HDD,
    1GB RAM,
    Webcam
    3x USB 2.0
    1x LAN (RJ45)
    1x VGA
    1x Microphone
    1x Line Out
    Fast Ethernet LAN port (10/100Mbit/s)
    Wireless LAN 801.11b/g Draft-N up to 300 mbit/s* and 802.11b/g compatibility

The cheaper Netbooks may have the smaller 8.9" screen.

If you're not in a hurry, just keep an eye on the website

Thanks for your input once again, could you post a link to the netbook you just mentioned as I can't seem to find it. being a bit of a technology novice, could you explain what it is about the specs that are outdated and how that would effect the performance please?

    MEDION® AKOYA® E1210 10.2" Netbook (N9786)

The newer models will have a larger hard drive capacity, built in card reader and maybe longer battery life for not a lot more money. So I'm reluctant to recommend buying at this price. £100 would be a nice price.

Donnie they've just put a Medion laptop on hotukdeals a 15" one for £225 approx. Is that a good buy do you reckon? want to get my kids a laptop or netbook but they've been on a 10" one that we borrowed and thought it a bit small. Mine's 162 but I don't want to spend much more than £200. many thanks for any advice

Have been aware of that machine for some time now. Too many pitfalls in my opinion for me to recommend it.
No webcam and microphone, Vista Basic and probably poor battery life.
If it fits your pattern of usage, I won't discourage you from purchasing.

They had a Toshiba around the same price recently which was much better value. I recommended that to certain people on a budget via PM.

thanks for that Donnie - i think my daughter would want a webcam - never spotted that. Have just been to tesco and noticed they had a Toshiba for £300 which was just a bit bigger than this one. they were out of stock but I'm going to have a look at reviews of that one if i can find it on the net. Also i was reading on another thread and someone had had trouble with their battery not lasting very long even when fully charged and the respondent said 'are you one of these people who has it plugged into the mains all the time as this could have caused it' and unfortunately I tend to do that. What's the correct method of use? Mine is a Acer aspire 5532 bought for me as a surprise last christmas by my OH which I thought was an extremely heavy box of chocs as we don't usually spend much!(sorry lots of information that will be of no interest to anyone)!
