Meteor parking fine - please help

Hi First time i've posted here.

i have received a fine by meteor for parking in a permit holders space with only a scratchcard ticket. Am i legally required to pay.

i appealed and got this reply.

Thank you for your recent representations received 6th October 2010 with regard to the above parking charge notice.

We have considered your representations and the evidence provided carefully, however we regret to inform you that they do not establish any grounds or suitable reason to cancel the parking charge notice.

This Parking Charge Notice has been issued as you have parked in an area restricted for the use of permit holders without displaying a valid permit before 9.30am. It is clearly stated within the terms and conditions of the car park if any area of this car park is designed exclusively for the use of season permit holders during specified hours a notice to this effect will be displayed. Failure to observe this notice and adhere to this will result in a parking charge notice being fixed to your vehicle or handed to you.

I have investigated your appeal and considered your points raised, however I am satisfied that the parking charge notice was issued correctly and this will be upheld on this occasion.

I do appreciate your comments however by entering the car park you are agreeing to park in accordance with the terms and conditions and it is the customer's responsibility to ensure they do so before leaving their vehicle. It is clearly stated on the height barrier that the car park is reserved for permit holders only before 9.30 and once you have driven through the height barrier it is also clearly stated on the floor which you have to drive over. It is also stated on signs throughout the car park including in Zones A and B. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure they view all signage provided to them in the car park and to park in accordance with the terms and conditions at all times. It also clearly stated on the letter you received with your scratchcards "please note: Scratchcards are not valid in permit holder bays".

Therefore, within 30 days of the date of this letter being served, you must either make payment for this notice or appeal against our decision within 7 days. The payment required within 30 days is 90 however, if you pay within 15 days Meteor will accept £45. If you fail to make payment or present a further appeal, Meteor Parking Limited will commence collection procedures for the recovery of the sum claimed in this notice along with all costs associated with its recovery.

How To Make Payment

By Post- Do not send cash through the post. All payments to be sent to the address stated above by cheque or postal order- made payable to 'Meteor Parking Limited'. Please attach your cheque/postal order to the payment slip and write the serial number of this notice on the reverse. Post-dated Cheques will not be accepted. Dishonoured cheques may result in further costs being incurred.

Online- Please visit ~~~~~~~~ follow the on screen instructions.

Yours sincerely

Pity you wasted your time appealing, they never accept appeals it costs them money. Just ignore all future begging letters and also the one threatening everything from pay up or else to pay up or you'll never get credit again. All bluff and bluster, with no substance.

Don't pay it. Ignore it. It's simple, stop wasting time over something akin to a phishing email.

Your post has been moved as you needed to start your own thread, then it will get more responses. The thread you posted on is for example threatograms only, not new cases.

In the meantime why not read all the threads you can manage, showing you all the replies other people with a PPC ticket have got. Stop reading when your eyes glaze over at the sight of yet another reply containing the words 'ignore' and 'scam'. :D

Here's the whole board, you'd be amazed how many people are in your shoes. Anyone who pays has been had for a mug so don't even think about falling for the scam:

  • I received a Parking Charge Notice from these guys recently despite having paid for a parking ticket. I can only assume that the warden had missed the ticket.

In short, I sent a pleasant email to Meteor with a copy of the PCN and Ticked and politely requested that they reconsider (and I mean politely).

The result was that they did reconsider and cancelled the PCN.

My point here is that if you "are" in the right, put your case politely (yes I was angry - but decided not to show it) and hopefully they will consider in your favour. Even if not, your approach will only stand you in good stead if you do have to take it further.

Whilst no-one likes Parking companies and their practises sometimes, I do give these guys credit for at least taking my evidence on board and in my case, reconsidering the PCN.

Well done you are amongst the few. I would keep the successful appeal letter for the future as there must be less of them then a Penny Black. It may well be worth money in the future. You may have got lucky 99% wont!
  • Tref, don't be surprised if a Debt Collectors letter comes your way, its been known before.

  • Call me a cynic but I suspect our scamming friends needed evidence to prove that they have a 'robust and ethical' appeals process to show the BPA. The BPA are desperate for legitimacy.

They have a very long way to go to prove that appeals are handled impartially, doesn't patas have a 70% of appeals upheld ? Do you think that the PPCs would go for something that would in theory take 70% of their income from them ? Even with people ignoring them it doesn't come anywhere near that !
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?
  • I believe that BPA will think that the odd successful appeal will prove what nice little bunnies their charges are. We all know that PPC appeals are a farce, hence my cynicism.

Ermmm...let me guess...you copied in a letter to the retailer you spent your money in didn't you?

That will have been the reason Meteor cancelled the ticket, not because they actually have an appeals process in any sense of the word.

  • I got a PCN today for parking on a kerb, I was completely out of the way, therefore not inconveniencing anyone, and there were no more spaces at the rail station. Not sure what I was meant to do.... go home and ring in to work to tell my boss "sorry I can't come in today but there were no car park spaces". Yeah I think she would've really been happy!

Anyway, I contacted Meteor to appeal... but reading posts on here sounds like I am wasting my time. Now that I have stupidly made contact - should I just pay up or not?

    All advice greatly appreciated :-)
