Just wondering what the worst wait is that users have to suffer..Please quote Spec/os etc

Timing is from power on to useable desktop

Mine

Tosh A210-12U lappy
AMD Turion x2
1Gb memory
OS Ubuntu Linux

Approx 55 seconds
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Until very recently and after adding another 2 GB's memory to it, 44 MINUTES! yes the last time from switch on to Google was just that!!! How it didnt go straight out the window at that point was down to my amazing will power! During that time I managed to shower and get dressed while watching it boot!

I think you may need to clean out the registry. Seems you computer is looking for something to load that may not exists any more.

A great free programme called ccleaner can help. Google it and try and find some instructions. If not when I have some more time I'll post instructions on how to use it.

But please please please back up the registry before starting the cleaning process. Ccleaner will ask you if you want to back it up before proceeding.

No this is not spam, I have used this programme many a time, it's free, clean and works a treat.

    Acer X3200
    AMD Phenom X3
    3Gb RAM
    Win7 32bit

About 25 seconds from power on.
  • deleting all the .pf files in the c:\windows\prefetch folder will also improve boot and system speed.

getting rid of startup programs will also help, you dont really need java, google, hp updaters

    Desktop:

    Phenom X3
    4GB RAM
    320GB HDD

Boot time - no idea. Not rebooted it other than Windows updates. Use Hibernation and suspend so I don't have to faff with all that nonsense.

    Macbook Pro:
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB RAM
    160GB HDD

Boot time - wazzat? Just open the lid and its instant on.
