With all necessary caveats about quoting the press before they actually release, and apologies to anyone taking exception at what they see as more Tory ramping by yours truly.
There appears to be at least some reason to believe that the unpopularity is because it is targeting the middle class, from which most of the media newsmakers are drawn.

Sometimes Gov has to do things its voters don't like. The have a responsibility to the country and future generations, and fairness... not just the selfish needs of those who can vote now.
13 years of Labour and spin-doctors and big grins and being smarmy and trying to please everyone... eyes constantly on latest poll ratings... it's over now.0 -

OK, so I think I remarked this once before and didn't get a coherent answer... this nickmason is supposed to be somebody real? Who is a Conservative? Or am I getting it wrong?
And if so, is it "the" person by that name, who I've never heard of?
And do they matter? Or not? To anybody? Or what?
I hate it when I'm out of the loop ... again.0 -

I knew you wouldn't be far away chucky.
Not defending the honour, as it happens. Just thought it an interesting perspective. Obviously this is quite newsworthy - damnit, for once politics seems to be being talked about "down pub" (although no one at work seemed too worried, maybe a product of working in the charity sphere) - so I popped in, having stayed away from this forum of late, to see what was going on. Saw what looked like a load of vitriol, and so thought I'd add a different perspective.0 -

My understanding he was/is a Tory Councillor in Dorset, and has nothing to do with Pink Floyd."An arrogant and self-righteous Guardian reading tvv@t".
