OK, so I think I remarked this once before and didn't get a coherent answer... this nickmason is supposed to be somebody real? Who is a Conservative? Or am I getting it wrong?

And if so, is it "the" person by that name, who I've never heard of?

And do they matter? Or not? To anybody? Or what?

I hate it when I'm out of the loop ... again.

    It's not a very important loop.:D

    I am real.
    I am conservative.
I am not "that" Nick Mason. I do not drive Ferraris, and I don't play the drums.
I probably don't matter much, except to my family. At the margin I matter to the residents of North Dorset, but probably not anything like as much as most politicians would want to matter.

Sometimes Gov has to do things its voters don't like. The have a responsibility to the country and future generations, and fairness... not just the selfish needs of those who can vote now.

13 years of Labour and spin-doctors and big grins and being smarmy and trying to please everyone... eyes constantly on latest poll ratings... it's over now.

I'm very pleased that we now have a government that is totally committed to honesty and to fairness to future generations.. in fact I was listening to lots of intereviews with senior govenment minsters who for whatever reason just wouldn't answer any questions about past promises.. strange

and in any event it appears that the majority support the proposal
so why do the voters dislike it?

Not defending the honour, as it happens. Just thought it an interesting perspective. Obviously this is quite newsworthy - damnit, for once politics seems to be being talked about "down pub" (although no one at work seemed too worried, maybe a product of working in the charity sphere) - so I popped in, having stayed away from this forum of late, to see what was going on. Saw what looked like a load of vitriol, and so thought I'd add a different perspective.

CB reform has been long overdue but someone ain't done their maths on this one.

Surely a better, more efficient, dammit man a more Tory way would be some sort of tax code adjustment, I've always struggled the concept of taxing money to give back to the same individual.

Most people on this site (look on the benefits board too) seem to be in favour of the CB cut.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Broadly I agree, though I'm still not comfortable with situation 2 earners on 43k get CB, but one on 44,001 won't.

That said it should be administered through HMRC.

Will they have to send out loads of forms to establish what people earn? How will they know? What about if you just lie? Who will enforce it?

Presumably self certification but with sample checks & penalties.

What about someone on say £43000 who has a variable bonus which may take him/her into HR tax range some years ???

Can see mucho bureacracy & admin headaches with this ill thought through issue.
