I don't understand why it doesn't go on household income?

because to get to that household income it's taken twice as many (wo)man hours. the housework and childcare still needs to be done so households where both parents work already have the extra costs (in time and money) to do this.

even if they did make it household it wouldn't help those with a high earner who would continue to lose the benefit. the only satisfaction they could get would be thinking double income household with lower individual earners had lost out too. which, quite frankly, is rather small and mean spirited imho.

i'm far from being a typical tory supporter but i'm with cameron on this one.

  • Comment in today's ES, quoting "senior Tory":
“We regard middle earners as people on £25,000 to £40,000. The Daily Mail regard them as people earning £40,000 to £80,000.”
  • 85% of people are not affected - of course they support it. It is the Tory's 10% tax moment.

I'm not affected but i think that it is unfair.

Many of those affected will have been victims of the credit crunch and not the causes of it. If all the cuts were announced at once it may be that, overall, it proves to be fair - ish. But I doubt it.

Isn't it exactly the opposite of that?

It totally is isn't it. I'm so tired this evening. Clearly my higher brain functions have gone to sleep already. :o

I will be affected but I'm still in favour of this change.
