Did she use long metal thingies to scrape about inside the tooth? That would be a RCT.0
-
Chameleon are you sure she didnt do an RCT? Thats what it sounds like to me and she has left it to drain before you go back tohave it filled permanently?
No, it's just an ordinary filling, albeit a deep one, and is lined with some special dressing with a permanent amalgam filling on top. She did say that if this failed then I would need an RCT (or extraction!).
I've still got some niggly pain this morning but it's nowhere near as bad as it has been the last few weeks. I'll give it a few days to settle down and see how it goes.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Hi everyone,
I didn't make it to the dentist yesterday. They managed to fit me in for an emergency appointment but I had to cancel because I kept vomiting. Not sure whether the massive amounts of painkillers or the penicillin caused me to be sick all day. I am still in pain but daren't take anything to ease it now.
I have just rung the dentist and rearranged the appointment for today 12.30.
Thanks to everyone for their concern.
Will keep you all posted

Hi all, wondering if anyone can help. Sorry of I'm hijacking the thread!
I need a route canal and have been quited £295 for a private appt. But this doesnt include a crown or filling.
Now how much can I expect to pay for this? If the cost of the crown is too high, can I get some stop-gap measure and then get it done overseas (ie. when I go visit my folks in South Africa) a couple of months later?
I'd really appreaciate anyone's help here!
I can afford £295 for neccesary work but cant really be doing with another £500 for a crown![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Rise like Lions after slumber

Oh deliab - vomitting and still with a toothache - I do have sympathy for you. You will probably find its the antibiotics that are causing that.
Fingers crossed that this will soon be sorted for you.xx0 -
deliab you sound like you're rally going through it, am so sorry
REALLY hope it all goes well today. I would also double check with the dentist / pharmacist about how to take the antiobiotics - I know you probably know
but some you should take with food, some on an empty stomach.
Chameleon - so glad you went and it was ok!!!! definitely the expectation is worse than the reality 99% of the time, especially at the dentist. I was a complete wreck before both RC appointments, but in the end I found I was just bored while she was doing it!
bf109 - I was due to pay about £350 (private) for the crown post-RC but in the end didn't get that far0 -
Hi everyone,
I went to the dentist today and saw another dentist, mine was not there today, she said that I should carry on with the antibiotics or she could extract the tooth there & then. So I said I would give the antibiotics time to work. That's the good part...... she advised me to see my own dentist (who is one of the Partners in the practice) so that he could take the temporary filling & dressing out of the tooth and do a permenant root filling. So I skipped to the reception desk to make a new appointment..... the earliest he could fit me in for a one hour appointment is.......... June 10th 2009. He only works half a day every month at my surgery and all the other dentists seem reluctant to do any work on his patients. Isn't this a bit absurd. I can see the whole tooth flaring up again at some point and I will end up having it removed.
NHS Dentists are very hard to come by in my neck of the woods so finding another one while I am still registered with this one will be difficult.
Any advice anyone?

Its ridiculous deliab, thats why I went privately last time. The NHS dentist whipped one tooth out (next to top canine) then a couple of weeks later when I was still waiting for the infected gum following the extraction to heal, another tooth snapped off. I was like a bag lady - she wanted to extract that one too but when I protested she said make an appointment and we will try to save it but its unlikely. ( I also had to ask her to take an xray! - when she did she said another crowned front one had a small infection under it and she thought it couldnt be saved) I went to receiption, first appointment 2 months later.
There was no way I could walk around til Christmas with two missing top frontish teeth. Went to private bloke, well worth the money - cost of a holiday (which I never have!) for him to save 3 she wanted to whip out. Plus all done in a few weeks.0 -

If having teeth is important to you - go private. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
