  • Go to see your gp re your heart burn. If it is bad enough to possibly be damaging the hardest substance in your body (enamel) imagine what it could do to your oesophagus. You may need some treatment for this.

    Oh right will do.

Also, sometimes if i sleep on my front i nearly choke on my own stomach contents. (sorry :o) i wake up gasping for breath....that's really not pleasant. Maybe that contributes? It hasnt happened for a while but happened twice last week. It worries my husband to death.
  • That is definately a problem. It may be you have a hiatus hernia or gastric reflux. Stomach acid is very damaging and shouldn't end up in the mouth.
Amongst the risk factors for this is being overweight and or smoking. Go and see your gp and mention this choking.
  • ok will do.

I don't smoke and never have and are a size 16 so overweight.

    Thankyou very much again.
  • I am due in tomorrow for a crown and post to be fitted the remaining bit of tooth broke off at root level (as the removed the temporary crown) before the new crown was fitted over it just over a week ago. I have a very small already filled root canal so the post is going to be difficult to fix.

Is it really worth trying to save the tooth?

Does anyone have any tips to make the chance of success higher?

I had near enough the same treatment earlier this year and after the third temp crown was put on I did also query if it was in fact worth the hassle of saving and my dentist said to me he'd save a tooth if he could rather then pull it cos a time will come when he has no other option and he would like to see me reach old age with at least some teeth :D

Now a month after the crown has been fitted the tooth has finally settled and I can eat and drink happily

I do clean around the crowns I have with the wee brushes and interdent sticks to help keep them viable
  • It's next week now they needed a bigger cast screw.

  • well ive decided to go ahead with the RCT, my appointment is at 9.10am tomorrow.

and i am very very scared :(

yes i sound like a complete wuss, ive gone through childbirth but this for me is really scary. I have a real phobia of the drill, not needles, dont mind them, just the dreaded drill......:(

Im being sedated which will help but still worrying about the pain. I had my bottom lower 2 wisodm teeth out under a general at hospital in august and ive only just been able to open my jaw fully! So also worried i'll be back to square one with that again...

If anyone can reasure me that would be great, my husband is really not good with words :(
  • well i did it! :j

The tears started to flow as i got into the waiting room. While there was a young girl (6 years old i guess) who was looking rather strangely at me, a grown woman in bits! :rotfl:

But I got in there and had a quick chat and my dentist assured me that root canal treatment was the best way to go rather than extraction and he was so right!

My sedation got underway (after big purple hands from the tourniquet as my veins are very well hidden lol) and i remember the big rubber dam which felt weird. There was a bit of pain when something sharp went deep, dont know what that was! and it took him 30mins tops. Then it took a good 30 mins for me to be able to stand properly.

I feel so relieved, so happy and (selfishly) proud of myself for doing it! :D

And the best thing is there is now NO pain. Cold drinks are fine now. I couldn't be happier.

for anyone debating go for rct!!! :)
