  • i had root nal few weeks ago, hadnt been to dentist for a while even though i knew that i needed to with toothache, but my mum was ill so i had to look after her etc,
anyway, thought was getting a filling but as drilling on numbed tooth he hit the nerve twich, which didnt bother me so much, but my whole body jumped. anyway, told needed root canal,i agreed, he got rid of most of nerve and i went back. numbed face again, but i must be one of them that does feel it, he offered to give me another local, but i said no thanks, once he'd dug last bit of nerve out it was fine. beter than losing the tooth anyway,
last dentist you couldnt feel the injections, but his one i could. must be a skill to it.
THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.
  • Had the first bit of the RCT on Wednesday, not too bad, didn't feel a thing, injections were the worst bit! Dentist reckons he got all the pulp out, took about 1 hr,tooth dressed and back on 1st October for him to finish off providing it's all settled. He used the rubber dam which I understand is a good thing?
Think I did the right thing, still a bit sore but apparently thats normal for a few days?
Turned out that the filling was sitting right on the nerve, started bleeding as soon as he got through it,said it was a miracle it hadn't gone "nuclear" before now!!!
  • Hi all,now 6 days on from first stage of RCT as detailed above, definitely getting better although still a little sore, hoping that's nothing to worry about!!!

    Sounds pretty good to me!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • Dannyboy1 - my RC was tender for the whole week pretty much before I went in for the second appointment, don't worry!

    Hope you are OK too.
  • Hi Everyone
Thanks to everyone who replied to my earlier threads about RCt. Just to let you know I have been for my second round of RCT treatment today. It was a little unpleasent but not painful at all. Didnt need a injection this time around. But everything ok now Dentist did say though if I get another infection in that tooth again they wont be able to save it this time so it will be took out.
    So thats it from me
    Thanks

    Hi all.

My OH thought one of his filling came off. As he didn't have a dentist, he just went to see the one down the street from where we live.

I expected to have one or two more 'problems', as you always do when visiting a dentist. The bad tooth in question is next to the wisdom toothat the bottom. The dentist said that the hole is at the back so that, to fix the tooth, he would have to remove the back wisdom tooth (which is reasonable, I guess). But that would leave his upper wisdom tooth by itself which, according to him, is no use and will eventually require extraction.

The cavity requires root canal treatment, with that comes the crown. So removal of two wisdom teeth, canal treatment on one tooth and the crown totalled £1600+.....

It seems a lot of work but £1600+???

Even the consultation cost over £120 with two x-rays!

Is he being ripped off or for the work it's acceptable??

Any advice would be really really appreciated.

    Thanks.

It sounds about right for a good dental practice.

Did it seem like a good dental practice? Is it nicely equiped? Are the staff friendly and helpful? Was everything well explained?

It seems from your post that the treatment was well explained, and you've obviously been given a detailed written estimate.

It sounds to me like this is a place worth the money.
