My drug should never ever be used with a pacemaker, just because it's an antidepressant doesn't make its use set in stone.

    And although i'm not a doctor I'm a toxicologist.

I sometimes talk about 'they' when I want to keep it vague whether I'm talking about a he or a she ...

Does anyone know know to check if a hospital Consultant has been suspended?
I am talking about a Psychologist.
I was being treated by the most wonderful person, but have been told on good authority that they have been "suspended" and now "sacked".
I just want to sing their praises to the manager of the Hospital, but don't know what stage the suspension is at.
All the above seem to refer to G.P.
  • OP, everything in medicine is a balancing act - do the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks???? You will find many drugs have contraindications; it doesn't mean they can't be used categorically......proceed with caution etc. As a layperson, you do not have the knowledge/experience or understanding to make that judgement call. I think perhaps you should have concerns about the ethics/professionalism of the other GP as from the information you have provided to date wouldn't instill me with confidence in them.

Sounds very unprofessional of the other GP to tell you that the first GP was wrong to be honest, pacemakers are contra-indicated for one of the medicines I'm on yet I'm on it with a pacemaker because the benefits outweigh the risks. Other doctors wouldn't have looked into the issue in as much detail as the doctor who initially prescribed me it so I would find it very unprofessional for another GP to comment on the issue.

Also one of the GPs at my practice had a breakdown and was off for over a year, there was much speculation about why she was off and that made her situation even worse and hindered her return to work, you should be very careful who you advertise your reservations to because it is unfair if you're saying this man got struck off when he's really off ill or off for other perfectly legitimate reasons.
Totally agree with this, as and example there is an epilepsy drug which when given to some fibromyalgia patients who have no signs or diagnosis of epilepsy can almost lead a normal life, I believe it is called LYRICA - just in case anyone wants to research it.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted:)
    I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

I take LYRICA - PREGABALIN although I am not an epileptic. It is also used for neuropathic pain - I suffer from M.E. and the pregabalin helps with the dreadful pain I have, especially in the legs.
As pregabalin stabilises electrical nerve activity, it can also be used to treat pain that occurs a result of damage to or a disturbance in the function of nerves (neuropathic pain). It can be used for peripheral neuropathic pain, ie nerve pain in the hands, legs or feet, or central neuropathic pain, eg as a result of a spinal cord injury.
Pregabalin can also used to treat generalised anxiety disorder.
It definitely helps and I am on the maximum dose of 600mg a day, I have other pain for which I have other medication.

If you have any concerns about medication you could ask the pharmacist (they are very knowledgeable) who should be able to tell you if there is anything you shouldn't be taking together.

The people who really know (more than GP's) about medication are pharmacists, paramedics and anaesthetists.

I don't think there is an easy way to find out about a suspension but if a psychologist is struck off you can check. All practictising psychologists now have to be registered with the Health Professions Council as Practitioner Psychologist. If you go to the website and enter the psychologists name it should show if registered.

Formal complaints re. psychologists can also be made to the British Psychological Society. They are only made public if investigations uphold these and various actions can follow (such as needing 3 years supervision, etc.)
    somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's
  • If the DR wa suspended and then re-instated that seems to suggest that, after investigation, he/she was found to have done nothing wrong.

I know a teacher who was suspended pending investigation, because a girl accused him of assault, she admitted later that she had made it up. His suspension was then lifted. It would be totally wrong to hold the suspension aaginst a wholly innocent person.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
