iphone sms delivery reports

I know I mentioned it earlier, but you do know that Orange charge for delivery reports right? Total rip-off. Only 0.9p per text, but it all adds up over a month. As I also said earlier (and as LeeSouthEast said) they are totally unreliable too, cross-network or same network. I had 'tested' this out by being in the same room as people I've sent texts to.
Is that non delivery of a delivery report or false positives? The latter I'd suggest isn't likely.
The Orange delivery report charge is 0.9p plus VAT as far as I know. That's a tenner if you send 1000 messages. Highway robbery.0 -
To install Cydia you'll need to jailbreak your phone (google jailbreak, and whatever model/iOS your phone is for more information on this). I've done it a few times on my 3G in the past, it's pretty straightforward but I'm quite used to hacking into phone software. I'm quite happy running the stock iOS4.1 at the moment, so I can't help you with the latest info sorry. Just google your iOS/model and 'jailbreak' and read up on everything. I believe it's quite difficult to 'brick' an iPhone thanks to iTunes' restore option, so just have a go! Best of luck.
thankyou, thank you, thank you, thank you, this is helpful, though feels a bit scary - jailbreaking, hacking? But this is great information.0 -
I've had delivery reports for messages that never arrive.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Interesting. Which network are you sending from and are you using the default SMSC?
I used to use foreign SMSC's and I did see that before (it'd come back delivered straight away when the receiving phone was off) but have never seen this behaviour on a UK Network SMSC.0 -

I don't really want to spin this out as I've now received some excellent help, however you know also you don't have to enable delivery reports, you can be selective. I always enable them (or rather did) when texting my children, and also my fella as he always switches his phone on when getting up in the morning, and it means I can check up on him and make sure he's up in time by sending a text late in the evening after he's gone to bed and then getting a delivery message when he switches his phone on! Long distance romances need all the help they can get!:(0 -

I had delivery reports, but the texts hadn't arrived (sometimes they didn't arrive until a few hours later). This wasn't a one-off either, as I tried it various times over a period of a few months. It almost became an obsession ...I had been relying on delivery reports as proof of text receipt, and got into a few ... ahem 'heated debates' with people who insisted they hadn't received my texts, so made it a mission to test the reliability. They used to add £5-7 a month to my bill, which obviously is £60-84 a year. Utter waste of money.

Bizzare. Don't give other networks ideas about charging for them.0 -

im looking at going to orange for a sim only deal.
are you charged extra for every text sent? or can you turn delivery reports off?

You can turn them off by going into your handset's settings.0
